Onze Mondial is a French language quarterly football magazine published in Paris, France.

History and profile

The magazine was established with name Onze in 1976. [1] In 1989 the magazine merged with another sports magazine, Mondial, and began to use its current name, Onze Mondial. [1]

The magazine is published on a quarterly basis in Paris. [2] It was previously published monthly by Lagardère Active. [1] In May 2013 the magazine ceased publication when it went bankrupt. [3] Sporteam Media SAS, a subsidiary of MenInvestMedia, [4] bought it in October 2013 [3] and the magazine was relaunched in November of the same year. [2]

Every year, Onze Mondial hands out the European Footballer of the Year (Onze d'Or) award, as well as awards for coaches. [5]

In 2014 Onze Mondial had a circulation of 20,954 copies. [6]

Rob Rensenbrink was a Dutch footballer and member of the Netherlands national team that reached two World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978. A creative and prolific left winger or forward, he became a legend in Belgium whilst playing in the great Anderlecht side of the 1970s. He is the UEFA Cup Winners Cup's all-time top scorer, with 25 goals. A talented dribbler as well as a cool finisher and adequate passer, he only ever missed two penalties in his entire career. He was also the first winner of the Onze d'Or.

The Onze d'Or is an association football award given by French magazine Onze Mondial since 1976. The award honors the best player in Europe, with any player in a European league eligible. Since 1991, there has also been a vote for the best coach of the year.
