Paul E. Frame (born April 16, 1957) is an American chiropractor and retired ballet dancer. Frame danced as a member of the corps de ballet at New York City Ballet for ten years before retiring from the stage. He is currently the resident chiropractor for Ballet Arizona.

Early life

Paul Frame was born in Charleston, West Virginia to Marvan and Mary Elizabeth Frame. [1] As children, he and his twin brother Peter Frame took ballet lessons with Jerry Rose. [2]

Career

Ballet

Frame was a member of the corps de ballet of the New York City Ballet from 1979 to 1999. [3] [4]

The Frame brothers, Paul and Peter, were profiled in a 1981 book, Twins on Twins, written by Julie Szekely with photographs by Kathryn McLaughlin Abbe and Frances McLaughlin-Gill.

Frame was awarded a scholarship to attend North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. After graduating from School of the Arts, he joined the Ohio Ballet. While dancing with the Ohio Ballet, Frame was offered a spot at the School of American Ballet in New York City on full-scholarship. He was chosen by George Balanchine to join the corps de ballet at New York City Ballet, where he danced for ten years. [5] [2] [6] [7] In 1983, Jennifer Dunning, dance reviewer for the New York Times, praised his "impassioned Mouse King" in The Nutcracker . [8] He danced the role again in 1984. [9] Dunning praised his "bold, clear dancing," in the sextet in the 1986 performance of Shadows, where she wrote that his dancing was a "highlight of the performance." [10] In 1987, Dunning wrote that Frame "performed with a special radiance." [11] [3] In 1986, he danced in A Midsummer Night's Dream . [12]

Chiropractic

Frame attended college at City College of New York. He graduated from Northeast College of Health Sciences in 1998 with a degree in Chiropractic and Physical Medicine Modalities and Therapeutic Procedures. [3] He began his Chiropractic practice in Tempe, Arizona shortly after finishing school. He is the resident chiropractor for Ballet Arizona. [13] [3] He met the Ballet's Artistic Director, Ib Andersen, when both men were dancers with the New York City Ballet. [3]

Peter Martins is a Danish former ballet dancer and choreographer. Martins was a principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet and with the New York City Ballet, where he joined George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and John Taras as balletmaster in 1981. He retired from dancing in 1983, having achieved the rank of danseur noble, becoming Co-Ballet Master-In-Chief with Robbins. From 1990 until January 2018, he was solely responsible for artistic leadership of City Ballet.

The Minnesota Ballet is a ballet company and school located in Duluth, Minnesota. Founded in 1965 by Donna Harkins and Jan Gibson as the Duluth Civic Ballet, the company has since expanded into a touring company with seventeen professional artists. From 1992 to 2007 the Artistic Executive Director of the Minnesota Ballet was Allen Fields, who retired to become Artistic Director Emirtus. Fields acquired rights to works by choreographers including Agnes de Mille, Antony Tudor, and George Balanchine. He was succeeded by Robert Gardner. In 2019 Karl von Rabenau was appointed Artistic Director. The Minnesota Ballet entered its 54th season in 2019/20.

Stars and Stripes is a neoclassical ballet choreographed by George Balanchine to music by John Philip Sousa, orchestrated by Hershy Kay. The ballet was made as a tribute to the United States, Balanchine's adopted country. It premiered on January 17, 1958, at the City Center of Music and Drama, danced by the New York City Ballet. It is dedicated to Fiorello La Guardia, former mayor of New York City. The ballet had been revived by multiple ballet companies, and at different special occasions.

Jock Soto is a former American ballet dancer and current ballet instructor.

Miranda Weese is an American former ballet dancer, teacher and ballet master. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1993 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1996. In 2007, she left to perform with the Pacific Northwest Ballet, first as a guest artist, then joined the company as a principal dancer, before retiring in 2010. In 2017, she joined the Boston Ballet as a children's ballet master.

Fanfare is a one-act ballet choreographed by Jerome Robbins to Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, in celebration of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The ballet premiered on June 2, 1953, the night of the coronation, at the City Center of Music and Drama, danced by the New York City Ballet.

Peter Frame was an American ballet dancer and dance teacher. He danced with New York City Ballet from 1976 until 1990 and was elevated to the rank of principal dancer in 1988. He was a faculty member at the School of American Ballet from 1993 until his death in 2018.

Paul Boos is an American dancer, ballet master, archivist, and répétiteur. He danced with New York City Ballet from 1977 until 1990 before becoming a guest teacher for the Royal Danish Ballet. In addition to teaching internationally, he is part of a select group of répétiteurs sanctioned by the Balanchine Trust to set the ballets of George Balanchine. Heléne Alexopoulos is an American retired ballet dancer. She was a student of Maria Tallchief who was discovered by George Balanchine as a teenager. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1978, she was promoted to principal dancer in 1989, and she retired in 2002.

Stephanie Saland is an American former ballet dancer and teacher. She was spotted by George Balanchine whilst a student at the School of American Ballet, then joined the New York City Ballet in 1972, and was promoted to principal dancer in 1984. She had created roles for both Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, before retiring in 1993. She then started teaching ballet in both the U.S. and internationally.

Unity Sickles Phelan is an American ballet dancer. She joined the New York City Ballet in 2013 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2021. Outside of the company, she had also danced in films John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and I'm Thinking of Ending Things.

Maria Calegari is an American ballet dancer, teacher and répétiteur. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1974 and became a principal dancer in 1983. She left the company in 1994, then occasionally performed until 2004. She also teaches ballet and began working as a répétiteur for the Balanchine Trust and Robbins Rights Trust in 1996 and 2003 respectively.
