Piqua is a city in Miami County, Ohio, United States, along the Great Miami River. The population was 20,354 at the 2020 census. Located 27 miles (43 km) north of Dayton, it is part of the Dayton metropolitan area.

Lehman Catholic High School is a private co-educational high school located in Sidney, Ohio, United States. It is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati and served by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. The school is named after Edward C. Lehman, who served as pastor of Holy Angels Parish for 34 years and oversaw the construction of Holy Angels High School. Lehman Catholic was established in 1970 as a result of the consolidation of Holy Angels High School, established in 1889, and Piqua Catholic High School, established in 1924. The school's colors are royal blue and gold and athletic teams are known as the Cavaliers. As of 2022, the principal is Veronica Gaier.
WHIO-FM – branded AM 1290 and News 95.7 WHIO – is a commercial talk radio station licensed to serve Pleasant Hill, Ohio, covering Dayton, Ohio and the Dayton metropolitan area. Owned by Cox Media Group, WHIO-FM acts as a full-time simulcast of WHIO. The WHIO-FM studios are located at Cox Media Center building in Dayton, while the transmitter is located in nearby Piqua. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team represents Rutgers University in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). Rutgers competes as a member of the Big Ten Conference. Prior to joining the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights were a member of the American Athletic Conference from 1991 to 2013. Rutgers plays its home games at SHI Stadium, in Piscataway, New Jersey. The team is currently led by head coach Greg Schiano. George Cafego was an American football player and coach of football and baseball. He played college football at the University of Tennessee, earning varsity letters 1937–1939, and professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Redskins, and Boston Yanks. He served as the head baseball coach at the University of Wyoming in 1950 and at his alma mater, Tennessee, from 1958 to 1962. Cafego was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1969.

He played college football for Ohio State University, and earned consensus All-American honors. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft, and played a single regular NFL season for the Colts.
Edward Joseph Michaels was an American football guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears, the Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted in the second round of the 1936 NFL Draft. He also played for the Wilmington Clippers from 1938 to 1942, and 1947. From 1948 to 1950 he played in the CFL for the Ottawa Rough Riders. Michaels also played on the "Steagles", a merged team consisting of the Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers in 1943. The team was the result of a league-wide manning shortage brought on by World War II. Many of the "Steagles" players were labeled 4-F's, those deemed physically unfit due to ailments such as ulcers, flat feet and even partial blindness. Michaels was labeled a 4F because he was nearly deaf.

He played and coached all three sports at the University of Michigan and was selected as the Most Valuable Player on the 1936 Michigan Wolverines football team. The Piqua Picks were a minor league baseball teams based in Piqua, Ohio. In 1911, the Piqua Picks played a partial season as members of the Class D level Ohio State League, joining the league during the season and hosting home games at the Ash Street Ball Grounds. Piqua finished in fifth place in the final 1911 standings, with Picks player Bert Blue winning the league batting title.
