The city of Dallas, Texas has a public art collection of over 300 individual pieces of art. [1] Dallas Love Field Airport has almost 20 pieces of art, [1] and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has over 30 more. [2] Well known sculptures on public display include Dallas Piece by Henry Moore and Floating Sculpture by Marta Pan. Dallas has at least one Confederate memorial on public display, the Confederate War Memorial, and a memorial to freed slaves, Freedman's Memorial by David Newton, installed in 1999. [3] Dallas Area Rapid Transit has run the DART Station Art & Design Program since 1988, [4] and as of 2007, had about 40 installations at transit stations and Cityplace, Dallas's subway station. [5]

Geographically located in the South Central region of the country, Texas shares borders with the U.S. states of Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north, New Mexico to the west, and the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas to the southwest, and has a coastline with the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast.

Public art is art in any media that has been planned and executed with the intention of being staged in the physical public domain, usually outside and accessible to all. Public art is significant within the art world, amongst curators, commissioning bodies and practitioners of public art, to whom it signifies a working practice of site specificity, community involvement and collaboration. Public art may include any art which is exhibited in a public space including publicly accessible buildings, but often it is not that simple. Rather, the relationship between the content and audience, what the art is saying and to whom, is just as important if not more important than its physical location.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit transport company

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a transit agency serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area of Texas. It operates buses, light rail, commuter rail, and high-occupancy vehicle lanes in Dallas and twelve of its suburbs. DART was created in 1983 to replace a municipal bus system and funded expansion of the region's transit network through a sales tax levied in member cities. DART's light rail system is the longest in the United States, at over 93 miles (149.7 km), and began operation in 1996. DART operates the Trinity Railway Express between Dallas and Fort Worth, through an interlocal agreement with Trinity Metro. The agency also operates the Dallas Streetcar and provides funding for the non-profit McKinney Avenue Streetcar.

Trinity Railway Express

The Trinity Railway Express (TRE) is a commuter rail line in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It was established by an interlocal agreement between Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Trinity Metro. Each transit authority owns a 50% stake in the joint rail project and contractor Herzog Transit Services operates the line. The TRE began operating in December 1996.

Mockingbird station

Mockingbird station is a DART Light Rail station in Dallas, Texas. It is located at Mockingbird Lane and North Central Expressway in North Dallas. It opened in January 1997 and is a station on the Blue, Red, and Orange Lines, serving the Mockingbird Station residential and retail development and nearby Southern Methodist University.

Cityplace/Uptown station

Cityplace/Uptown station is a DART Light Rail station located in Dallas, Texas. It is located beneath North Central Expressway at Haskell Avenue in the Cityplace district. As an infill DART station, it opened on December 18, 2000 as the first public subway station in the Southwest.

Bachman station

Bachman station is a Dallas Area Rapid Transit station in Dallas, Texas. It serves DART's Green Line and Orange Line. The station opened as part of the Green Line's expansion in December 2010. It services nearby attractions such as Bachman Lake and surrounding neighborhoods. This is the last shared stop outbound between the Green and Orange Lines before the Orange Line branches off to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Because of this, it is one of the only three-track DART stations.

Belt Line station is a DART station in Irving, Texas. It is located on Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport property and serves the Orange Line. The station opened in December 2012 and was the terminus of the Orange Line until the DFW Airport station opened on August 18, 2014.

DFW Airport North station

DFW Airport North station is a TEXRail commuter rail station and future DART commuter rail station. It is located on Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport property in Grapevine, Texas.

The Cotton Belt Rail Line is a planned 26-mile (42 km) commuter rail line traversing Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The lines will provide service from Dallas's northeast suburbs of Plano, Richardson, and Addison to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Terminal B.

DART Light Rail, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Light Rail, is a light rail system in Dallas, Texas, and its suburbs owned and operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The system comprises 93 miles (150 km) among its four lines—the Red Line, the Blue Line, the Green Line, and the Orange Line. It is the longest light rail system in the United States. As of the fourth quarter of 2017, the system has an average weekday ridership of 98,700, making it the largest light rail system in the Southern United States by ridership, and the sixth largest in the United States by ridership. The system uses 163 light rail trains manufactured by Kinki Sharyo, with all trains being converted to "Super" LRVs which feature level boarding and higher passenger capacity.

Mockingbird Lane is a road located mainly in central Dallas, Texas. It is one of three main arterial roads in this part of Dallas, and is also a major road through Highland Park.

The Metro Arlington Xpress (MAX) was a public transit system serving Arlington, Texas, part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. MAX consisted of a single bus route that connected CentrePort/DFW Airport station on the Trinity Railway Express to downtown Arlington and the University of Texas at Arlington campus. The service was operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and funded by the city of Arlington. The pilot program started in April 2013 and was replaced by a ride-sharing service in December 2017.

DFW Airport/Terminal B station is a current terminal Trinity Metro TEXRail station and future Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Cotton Belt commuter rail station located at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport between Terminal B and DART's DFW Airport light rail station.
