Puntland State University is a university in Garowe, the administrative capital of the northeastern Puntland region of Somalia.

History

The school traces its roots back to the Garowe School of Management, a women's school in Garowe offering courses in accounting, computer skills, business English and business management. After a year of operation, which saw the graduation of 60 women, the school was expanded to a two-year structure and renamed to Puntland Community College. In 2004, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and USIU Nairobi, PCC was expanded to include four-year programs. It was also renamed Puntland State University (PSU).

The university was founded in its current form in 1979, although its origins trace back to the 1920s. PSU is notable for its many locations throughout the province of Pangasinan. East Africa University (EAU) is a non-for-profit institution university in the autonomous Puntland state in northeastern Somalia, as well as in neighbouring Somaliland. Founded in the commercial capital of Bosaso, it has additional branches in Buhodle, Galdogob, Galkayo, Garowe, Qardho and Erigavo. The college offers courses in seven core departments including: Medicine, engineering, veterinary, Business Admin, Sharia studies, It also operates distance learning center.

Gollis University (GU) is a privately owned university in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland It is situated near the Golis Mountains.

Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, also more known as Abdiweli Gaas, is a Somali American economist and politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Somalia from June 2011 to October 2012, and briefly afterwards as an MP in the newly formed Federal Parliament. During his time as premier, Ali is credited with having devised the formal "Roadmap for the End of Transition", a political process that provided clear benchmarks leading toward the establishment of permanent democratic institutions in the country. On 8 January 2014, he was elected the 5th president of Puntland.

Ali Haji Warsame is a Somali entrepreneur, accountant, and politician. He served as the first director of management at the Port of Bosaso, and later as the chief executive officer of Golis Telecom Somalia. In 2014, he was appointed the minister of education of Puntland.

Admas University Garowe Campus is a tertiary institution in Garowe, the administrative capital of the autonomous Puntland region in northeastern Somalia. A campus of the Addis Ababa-based Admas University, it was established in March 2014. The university also has a second campus in Hargeisa, the administrative capital of the autonomous Somaliland region in northwestern Somalia.
