Taxonomy

The genus was circumscribed by Finnish lichenologist Edvard August Vainio in 1921. [1] The species of this genus were previously classified in genus Stegobolus , until molecular phylogenetic analysis showed that Stegobolus and Rhabdodiscus formed two separate, distantly related clades. Rhabdodiscus was formally reinstated in 2012 to contain the formers members of the Stegobolus auberianus species group.

Description

Rhabdodiscus is characterised by having a distinctly carbonized (blackened) apothecia with thin margins that lack a felt-like pruina. In contrast, Stegobolus species have apothecia that are either uncarbonized to weakly carbonized, and have thick margins with felty pruina on the inner side. [2]

Species

As of January 2022, Species Fungorum accepts 36 species of Rhabdodiscus. [3]

Astrochapsa Genus of lichens

Astrochapsa is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the subfamily Graphidoideae of the family Graphidaceae. It has 28 species. The genus was circumscribed by Sittiporn Parnmen, Robert Lücking, and H. Thorsten Lumbsch in 2012, with Astrochapsa astroidea assigned as the type species. It was segregated from the genus Chapsa, from which it differs in having a more frequently densely corticate thallus, an apothecial margin that is mostly recurved, and the almost exclusively subdistoseptate, non-amyloid ascospores.

It was circumscribed in 2012 by Sittiporn Parnmen, Robert Lücking, and Helge Thorsten Lumbsch, with Pseudochapsa dilatata as the type species. Pseudochapsa differs from Chapsa it that its excipulum is typically brown. Additionally, its ascospores are mostly discoseptate and amyloid. The generic name combines the Greek pseudo ("false") with the genus name Chapsa.
