Charleston Battery is an American professional soccer club based in Charleston, South Carolina, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 1993, the Battery are one of the oldest continuously operating professional soccer clubs in the United States, tied with the Richmond Kickers.

The club was established in 1993, and began play that same year as a United States Interregional Soccer League expansion team, which at the time, was the fourth tier of soccer in the United States.

The 2010 Charleston Battery season marked the club's seventeenth year of professional soccer. The team played in the USL Second Division (USL-2), the third tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, having voluntarily self-relegated from the USL First Division at the end of the 2009 season. Charleston played its home games at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The team was coached by Michael Anhaeuser, in his sixth year as head coach, and was assisted by former Battery player Ian Fuller. The Battery finished the regular season in first place with a record of 11–4–5, 38 points, and hosted the USL-2 championship match at Blackbaud Stadium on August 28, 2010. Charleston finished the regular season without a home defeat. The Battery defeated the Richmond Kickers 2–1 to win their third league title. Lamar Neagle led the USL-2 in scoring with 13 league goals and was named the league MVP. Battery manager Mike Anhaeuser was named the league's manager of the year.

Seattle Sounders FC, who entered the competition as the two-time defending champions, successfully defended their title again. They became the third team in U.S. Open Cup history to win three straight U.S. Open Cups. As winner of the Open Cup, the Sounders earned a place in the 2012–13 CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage. The farthest advancing USL Pro team was the Richmond Kickers.

They played in the now defunct USL First Division which in 2005 was rebranded from A-League and was the highest level of Canadian club soccer. 2005 was Bob Lilley's first season as head coach after Tony Fonseca was released to take on the new District Development Centre Technical Director position with the BCSA. Under Tony Fonseca the Whitecaps had playoffs qualifications three straight years and advanced to the semifinals once. Part of the re-organization of BC youth soccer involved the Whitecaps expanding their youth program to ten Super Y League teams. The Whitecaps were one of only a few US or Canadian clubs with a complete youth system. MLS teams in 2005 did not have as extensive a club structure.
Lionsbridge Football Club, or Lionsbridge FC, is an American soccer club based on the Virginia Peninsula, which comprises the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York and James City counties. The club was founded in 2017, and play in USL League Two. The club's colors are blue, black and white, and the club is named for the Lions Bridge, the iconic Peninsula landmark that has stood along the James River and in the Mariners' Museum Park since 1923. The team plays its home games at TowneBank Stadium on the campus of Christopher Newport University.

The 2022 Richmond Kickers season was the club's 30th season of existence, their fourth season in USL League One, and their 18th season in the third tier of American soccer. The Kickers were led by third-year head coach, Darren Sawatzky. The USL League One season started on April 2 and concluded on October 15, 2022.
