"Roxette" is the debut single by the band Dr. Feelgood released in 1974, [1] from their 1975 debut album Down by the Jetty . [1]

Release

"Roxette" was issued as a single in the UK in November 1974. [1] It failed to reach the UK Singles Chart. [2] It was written by Wilko Johnson and produced by Vic Maile. [3] The B-side of the record is a cover of "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66". [4]

Later, in September 1976, a live recording of the song was issued by the band as a single, with a live recording of "Keep It Out of Sight" on the B-side. The live recording of the track also appeared on Dr. Feelgood's 1976 live album, Stupidity .

"Roxette" was also later included on Dr. Feelgood's 1997's compilation album, Twenty Five Years of Dr. Feelgood . [1]

Johnson re-recorded the song with Norman Watt-Roy for his 2013 album, Faith and Grace, performing it live on a few occasions on Watt-Roy's tour in October 2013.

The Swedish duo Roxette took their name from this song. [5] [6]

Roxette was a Swedish pop rock duo, consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Formed in 1986, the duo became an international act in the late 1980s, when they released their breakthrough second album Look Sharp! Their third album Joyride, which was released in 1991, became just as successful as its predecessor. Roxette went on to achieve nineteen UK Top 40 hits and several US Hot 100 hits, including four US number-ones with "The Look", "Listen to Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love", featured on the soundtrack of Pretty Woman, and "Joyride". Their other hits include "Dressed for Success", "Dangerous", and "Fading Like a Flower".

Dr. Feelgood (band)

Dr. Feelgood are an English pub rock band formed in 1971. Hailing from Canvey Island, Essex, the group are best known for early singles such as "She Does It Right", "Roxette", "Back in the Night" and "Milk and Alcohol". The group's original distinctively British R&B sound was centred on Wilko Johnson's choppy guitar style. Along with Johnson, the original band line-up included singer Lee Brilleaux and the rhythm section of John B. Sparks, known as "Sparko", on bass guitar and John Martin, known as "The Big Figure", on drums. Although their most commercially productive years were the early to mid-1970s, and in spite of Brilleaux's death in 1994 of lymphoma, a version of the band continues to tour and record to this day.

The song had originally been written and recorded for the duo's 1994 studio album Crash! Boom! Bang! but, according to Marie Fredriksson, that version "sounded really tired", and has yet to be released. It was later re-recorded in July 1995 with members of Per Gessle's former band Gyllene Tider. It is the only song in Roxette's discography to not be produced by Clarence Öfwerman. "She Doesn't Live Here Anymore" was only released in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, peaking at number 86 on the German Singles Chart. The track was originally written in Swedish by Per Gessle, as "Svarta glas", for recording artist Pernilla Wahlgren, who turned it down.
