A shooting range, firing range, gun range or shooting ground is a specialized facility, venue, or field designed specifically for firearm usage qualifications, training, practice, or competitions. Some shooting ranges are operated by military or law enforcement agencies, though the majority of ranges are privately owned by civilians and sporting clubs and cater mostly to recreational shooters. Each facility is typically overseen by one or more supervisory personnel, variously called a range master or range safety officer (RSO) in the United States, or a range conducting officer (RCO) in the United Kingdom. Supervisory personnel are responsible for ensuring that all weapon safety rules and relevant government regulations are followed at all times.
Wingo was an experimental indoor wing shooting sport invented by the Winchester-Western Division of the Olin Corporation in the early 1970s. The only Wingo facility built was in San Diego, California and was in operation during 1971. It was a family friendly sport enjoyed by men, women and children. Competing teams were organized into leagues. Many area businesses formed teams to compete with one and another. Individual play was also available. The building was purpose built for the new sport and luxurious in its appointments. It contained a service and concession area, a restaurant and two sunken lounges with seating and color slide shows of sporting activities. It had a large parking lot and a very large sign with the "Wingo" logo only. This created a natural curiosity about what it was to passing motorists. The cost of a 10 shot game was one dollar. Popular Science published an article in the February 1971 issue titled ”Indoor Wingshooting Is Here” about Wingo.
The 10 meter air pistol is an Olympic shooting event governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (Issf). It is similar to 10 meter air rifle in that it is shot with 4.5 mm caliber air guns at a distance of 10 metres (11 yards), and that the match consists of a qualification round of 60 competition shots within 75 minutes. If an Electronic Scoring System (EST) is not available, 15 minutes are added to the time limit. Competitors are allowed to shoot an unlimited amount of shots during the 15 minutes preparation and sighting time. Along with the 50 meter pistol, it is considered a precision shooting event. Thus, numerous shooters compete in both events.
