Susanne Clausen is a German and British artist, curator and Professor of Fine Art at the University of Reading. [1] She works often in collaboration with Pavlo Kerestey under the name Szuper Gallery, under which she publishes most of her works; consisting mainly of performances, videos and multi-media installations, paintings and drawings. [2] For the University of Reading, as well as being a professor, she holds the title of Director and Founder of Reading International, also serving as the head of the Art between 2011 and 2017. [1]

She has lived and worked in Munich Germany, London and Reading England, having exhibited across the world in galleries and art spaces spanning from the Institute of Contemporary Arts London, to the Western Front Arts Centre Vancouver and the Perm Museum of Contemporary Art Russia. [3]

Life and Work

Susanne Clausen first studied Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Art Munich, Germany, or Akademie der Bildenden Künste München between 1988 and 1994. She then studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London England (Part of the University College London) between 1997 and 1999. Here, she received an MA in Fine Art Media. [1]

Together with artist Pavlo Kerestey, Susanne Clausen has worked under the name Szuper Gallery. What originated as an actual gallery based in Munich Germany, now serves as a name for a variety of pieces with well known projects such as Liftarchiv, or Luquid Trust. Szuper Gallery generally specialises in multimedia installations, but has worked in a large range of mediums. [3]

University of Reading

Between 2011 and 2017, Susanne Clausen served as the head of the Reading School of Art, or Department of Art (previously). [1]

In 2016, she founded the arts festival 'Reading International', as part of the UoR and the Reading Year of Culture. This project brings together artists and performers from across the world to show in the town of Reading, and is self described as "Led by artists from the Reading School of Art at the University of Reading and hosted by a rich mixture of partners within the town, Reading International produces several major projects each year, in which artists and curators are given a platform to make new work in response to the unique social and historical context of Reading and wider Berkshire". Lowery Stokes Sims is an American art historian and curator of modern and contemporary art known for her expertise in the work of African, African American, Latinx, Native and Asian American artists such as Wifredo Lam, Fritz Scholder, Romare Bearden, Joyce J. Scott and others. She served on the curatorial staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Museum of Arts and Design. She has frequently served as a guest curator, lectured internationally and published extensively, and has received many public appointments. Sims was featured in the 2010 documentary film !Women Art Revolution.

Do Ho Suh is a Korean artist who works primarily in sculpture, installation, and drawing. Suh is well known for re-creating architectural structures and objects using fabric in what the artist describes as an "act of memorialization." After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts from Seoul National University in Korean Painting, Suh began experimenting with sculpture and installation while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from RISD in 1994, and went on to Yale where he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture in 1997. He practiced for over a decade in New York before moving to London in 2010. Suh regularly shows his work around the world, including Venice where he represented Korea at the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001. In 2017, Suh was the recipient of the Ho-Am Prize in the Arts. Suh currently has studios in London, New York, and Seoul.

Wynne Greenwood is a queer feminist performance artist who works in various media such as installation art, photography, filmmaking and music. One of her well known projects include the electropop and video project group, Tracy + the Plastics. Wynne works out of Seattle, Washington, and was an instructor in the Department of Art and Art History at Seattle University.

Szuper Gallery is a contemporary art collective consisting of artists Susanne Clausen and Pavlo Kerestey based in London, England and Munich, Germany. Their work mainly involves video and sound installations, performances and more - known for works such as Liftarchiv; a piece intended as a dynamic art space in the form of a lift, located in the city's local administration office or Kreisverwaltungsreferat, as well as Liquid Trust, a video and performance shown originally at the Western Front Art Centre Vancouver in 2014.

Didem Özbek is a conceptual artist, curator and graphic designer, living and working in Istanbul. She studied at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul and gained her MA in Communication Design at Central Saint Martins in London.
