Tata Housing Development Company (THDC) is a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, a holding company of the Tata Group. [2]

The company was established in 1984 by the late JRD Tata. It was revived in 2006 under the leadership of Brotin Banerjee, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Housing Development Company Limited. Its current Managing Director is Sanjay Dutt. [1]

Since 2006 the company has developed into one of leading real estate development company and has built many landmark projects across India. Tata Housing pioneered the concept of low-cost housing aimed at the economically weaker section of society. It pioneered the concept of sustainable green development with its first commercial project – Xylem in Bengaluru (Bengaluru's first sustainable IT park). The project was awarded a gold certification by LEED, and since then every project of Tata Housing, from low-cost housing and affordable housing to ultra premium luxury projects, are all sustainable green developments certified by the Indian Green Building Council.

The company currently[ when? ] has 45 million sq.ft under various stages of development.

In 2010, Tata Housing launched Tata Value Homes, its 100% subsidiary to cater to low-cost and affordable housing in India in the price range of Rs. 4–10 Lacs, with the vision of bridging the huge shortfall of over 26 million households in India. [3] [4] [5]

Projects

The company has constructed many projects – integrated mixed use townships, commercial/retail complexes, budget housing and premium luxury housing projects. [6]

The projects have been constructed in major Indian cities – Kolkata, Gurugram, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, Pune, Bangalore, Cochin among others. [6]

The Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) is a subsidised-sale public housing programme managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is a statutory authority, under the Indian Ministry of Railways, set-up by an Amendment to the Railways Act, 1989. It is responsible for creating assets for Indian Railways through the development of vacant railway land for commercial use to generate revenue by non-tariff measures. RLDA's mission is to be a leader in creating value through the redevelopment of land and air spaces – residential, commercial, and transportation hubs. RLDA's expenses are covered through grants provided by Indian Railways. RLDA transfers the total earnings generated from the development of railway land to Indian Railways. The Indian Planning Commission has computed an approximate budget of around Rs 20 to 272 billion for the development of infrastructure nationally during the 11th plan period. Out of this budget, the Railways has an anticipated requirement of Rs 2800 billion. 83% of this requirement is supposed to be met through public sector investment. In order to generate the remaining investment required to meet the budget mentioned above, the Indian Railways set up the Rail Land Development Authority on 1 November 2006. Ved Prakash Dudeja, a 1986 batch IRSE officer, is Vice Chairman of RLDA. He joined RLDA on 7 April 2019.
