The Alan Colmes Show was a nationally syndicated American radio show hosted by commentator Alan Colmes on Fox News Radio. The show aired on weeknights from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) from Fox's Manhattan studios. The program was carried by a number of terrestrial radio stations across the country via Fox News syndication unit Fox News Radio, as well as by XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio, both on channel 126 Fox News Talk. [1] The show featured commentary by Colmes, numerous callers, and interviews of guests. It began broadcasting in February 2003. [2]

Radio broadcasting in the United States has been used since the early 1920s to distribute news and entertainment to a national audience. It was the first electronic "mass medium" technology, and its introduction, along with the subsequent development of sound movies, ended the print monopoly of mass media. During radio's "Golden Age" it had a major cultural and financial impact on the country. However, the rise of television broadcasting in the 1950s relegated radio to a secondary status, as much of its programming and audience shifted to the new "sight joined with sound" service.

Talk radio is a radio format containing discussion about topical issues and consisting entirely or almost entirely of original spoken word content rather than outside music. Most shows are regularly hosted by a single individual, and often feature interviews with a number of different guests. Talk radio typically includes an element of listener participation, usually by broadcasting live conversations between the host and listeners who "call in" to the show. Listener contributions are usually screened by a show's producers in order to maximize audience interest and, in the case of commercial talk radio, to attract advertisers. Generally, the shows are organized into segments, each separated by a pause for advertisements; however, in public or non-commercial radio, music is sometimes played in place of commercials to separate the program segments. Variations of talk radio include conservative talk, hot talk, liberal talk and sports talk.

Alan Colmes American broadcaster

Alan Samuel Colmes was an American radio and television host, liberal political commentator for the Fox News Channel, and blogger. He was the host of The Alan Colmes Show, a nationally syndicated talk-radio show distributed by Fox News Radio that was broadcast throughout the United States on Fox News Talk on Sirius and XM. From 1996 to 2009, Colmes served as the co-host of Hannity & Colmes, a nightly political debate show on Fox News Channel. Beginning in 2015, Colmes supplied the voice of The Liberal Panel on Fox News Channel's The Greg Gutfeld Show.

The show's last original broadcast was on February 23, 2017, the same day that Colmes died at the age of 66 from lymphoma. [3] [4]

Lymphoma hematologic cancer that affects lymphocytes that reside in the lymphatic system and in blood-forming organs

Lymphoma is a group of blood cancers that develop from lymphocytes. The name often refers to just the cancerous versions rather than all such tumors. Signs and symptoms may include enlarged lymph nodes, fever, drenching sweats, unintended weight loss, itching, and constantly feeling tired. The enlarged lymph nodes are usually painless. The sweats are most common at night.

For the February 24, 2017 broadcast (final broadcast of Colmes's show), Fox News Radio aired a retrospective-themed edition, replaying select episodes of his show from over the years.

Then, on February 27, 2017, to replace Colmes's show, Fox News Radio began utilizing a rotating cast of hosts for a yet-to-be-named show.
