The Great American Beast (formerly known as The Red Affair) was an American Southern rock/metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio.^[1] The group disbanded in 2010 to focus on other pursuits.

History

Formation and early releases (2002-2007)

Formed in 2002 as The Red Affair, the band's original line-up consisted of several members from A Day in the Life, an alternative rock band from the same home city. The Red Affair went on hiatus a year later, and reformed in 2004 to record the EP Memento Mori. The Red Affair was featured on the three-way split EP with A Day in the Life and Hit the Lights entitled, From Ohio With Love .

After the departure of Justin Netherly, guitarist Levi Walden took over on vocals, with three other members (Peter, Ben, and Kipp) also joining the band. In late 2007 the band played their last show as The Red Affair, prior to changing their name to The Great American Beast.

Along with a new name, the band took on a new musical style. Previously The Red Affair was known as a softer band, representative of genres such as pop punk, emo, and post-hardcore. The Great American Beast, however, resembles modern metalcore and Southern rock.^[2]^[3]

Domestic Blood and break-up (2007-2010)

In late 2009 the band was signed with Trustkill Records. In September 2010 the group released their debut full-length album, entitled Domestic Blood. A digital EP entitled The Modern Gentlemen was released prior to the album, on June 22, 2010. Both works were released through Trustkill Records.

As of October 2010, bass guitarist Peter Disalvo announced via Myspace that the band had broken up and decided to "return to the real world." A final show was performed on October, 23, 2010 at Sidney Elk's Lodge in Sidney, Ohio.^[4]

Throwdown is an American heavy metal band from Orange County, California. Formed in 1997, the band has endured numerous lineup changes to the point where no original members remain. Throwdown has toured as part of Ozzfest, Sounds of the Underground, Hellfest, and Warped Tour, as well as with bands such as In Flames, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Korn and Cavalera Conspiracy. The songs "Forever" and "Burn" were staples on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and Revolver Magazine called them part of "The Future of Metal" after hearing the album Vendetta. Initially branded a hardcore punk band, albums like Venom and Tears and Deathless took a sharp turn towards metal, with critics likening the band's sound to that of Pantera and Sepultura. The band are straight edge.

Sullivan is an American rock band from Greensboro, North Carolina, United States.

It Dies Today is an American metalcore band that formed in Buffalo, New York during September 2001. The band achieved popular success in 2004 with the release of their debut album, The Caitiff Choir. After frontman Nicholas Brooks departed in 2006, just after the release of the band's sophomore effort Sirens, It Dies Today released Lividity in 2009 before going on hiatus in 2010. The band reunited briefly for a show in 2012, but the reunion paused again in 2015. On December 22, 2022, It Dies Today was announced as an act appearing at FurnaceFest 2023.

Despite its title, it is not a compilation of previously-released material; all of the material was newly recorded especially for this release. Its title hints to the fact that for this release, the band chose the best material from their prior out-of-print releases and re-recorded these songs to create a new album. It also includes the newly-written song "Motionless and White".

First Blood is an American hardcore band from San Francisco, California, formed in 2002.

Widdlesworth was a Christian indie rock band from Akron, Ohio. Widdlesworth was formed in November 2003 by Ryland Raus as an acoustic solo project. Soon he added drummer Jesse Trillet and bassist Ricky Dyson to the line up to make Widdlesworth a full band. They began practicing regularly at this time though they only played a few shows since Widdlesworth was still viewed as more or less a side project as Ryland put most his time and effort into playing and practicing with the street punk band My Son Cid. As the summer of 2004 rolled to an end Ryland parted ways with My Son Cid and focused all his energy on Widdlesworth. It was at this time they added a second guitarist, Tony Livigni and a new drummer, Chris Kingsland.

Sleepwalking is the debut studio album by American metalcore band Memphis May Fire. The album was released through Trustkill Records on July 21, 2009. This album is the first album to feature lead vocalist Matty Mullins after former lead vocalist Chase Ryan left the band in 2008. Scheduled to be released summer 2008, the release got delayed because of the line-up change. Mullins has described the album as "a new breed of rock 'n' roll" and musically it has "more aggressive guitar work and noticeably more melodic, but still retains that southern swagger."

ArmsBendBack is an American band formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band was signed to Trustkill Records until it dissolved in 2010. ArmsBendBack's sound can be loosely defined as alternative rock, but the band takes influence from several genres, including hardcore, metalcore, and emo.

It Prevails is an American five-piece metalcore band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2004. The band is influenced by melodic metalcore and classic rock, including Shai Hulud, Twelve Tribes, Strongarm, Lifetime and Hot Water Music. A premium was placed on lyrics related to struggles of the human condition and altruistic actions.

Disembodied is an American metalcore band formed in 1995 in Minneapolis. Originally featuring Aaron Weseman (vocals), Justin James Kane (drums), Tara Johnson (bass), Joel Andrew Johnson (guitar) and Mario Diaz de León (guitar), the band split up in 1999 and reunited in 2008 and 2018, respectively.
