The Old Prince is the second studio album by Canadian rapper Shad, released October 23, 2007 on Black Box Recordings. On June 30, 2009 it was re-released on iTunes on the same label. [4]

Shadrach Kabango, better known by his stage name Shad or Shad K., is a Canadian alternative hip hop recording artist and broadcaster. He hosted Q on CBC Radio One from 2015 to 2016, and hosts the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series Hip-Hop Evolution.

Black Box Music

Black Box Music is an independent music and artist development company based out of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Originally operating under Black Box Recordings, the company began exclusively as a record label in 2004. It has since expanded to include management and publishing services in recent years, prompting the brand change in 2008. The Black Box Recordings brand now exists as the record label sector of Black Box Music's full-service approach.

Singles

Videos have been made for four tracks from the album, "I Don't Like To", "Brother (Watching)", "Compromise" and "The Old Prince Still Lives At Home". The video for "The Old Prince Still Lives at Home", a spoof of the opening credits to the television series The Fresh Prince of Bel Air with Shad playing the role of Will Smith, won CBC Radio 3's 2008 Bucky Award for Best Video.

Award nominations

The Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year has been awarded since 1991, and is awarded for the best rap album in Canada. It was awarded under the title Best Rap Recording from 1993 to 2002.

The Juno Awards of 2008 were held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on the weekend ending 6 April 2008. These ceremonies honoured music industry achievements in Canada in the latter part of 2006 and in most of 2007.

2008 Polaris Music Prize

The 2008 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 30, 2008 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. The prize was won by Caribou for his album Andorra.

Two Hours Traffic was a Canadian indie rock band, based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. They are named after a line in the prologue to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Polaris Music Prize award

The Polaris Music Prize is a music award annually given to the best full-length Canadian album based on artistic merit, regardless of genre, sales, or record label. The award was established in 2006 with a $20,000 cash prize; the prize was increased to $30,000 for the 2011 award. In May 2015, it was announced the Polaris Music Prize winner will now receive $50,000, an additional $20,000, thanks to the sponsorship of Slaight Music. Additionally, second place prizes which go to the nine other acts on the Short List will increase from $2,000 to $3,000. Polaris officials also announced they will be creating The Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize, a sort of hall of fame award that "will annually honour five albums from the five decades before Polaris launched in 2006." Details about the selection process for this prize are still to be revealed.
