Vidyanjali is a school volunteer programme and an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India to boost community and private sector participation in government schools, launched by Smriti Irani. [1] [2] Under the programme, volunteers, including NRIs, retired teachers, government officials, defence personnel, professionals will offer their services for co-scholastic activities for children from class I to VIII. [3] It is the project launched under the aegis of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by the Department of School Education and Literacy. [4] [5]

The programme being piloted across 21 states which includes Indian states like Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. 2013 North India floods Floods that occurred in Northern India in 2013

In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides becoming the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami. The reason the floods occurred was that the rainfall received was on a larger scale than the regular rainfall the state usually received. The debris blocked up the rivers, causing major overflow. The main day of the flood was 16 June 2013. Though some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in India experienced the heavy rainfall, some regions of Western Nepal, and some parts of Western Tibet also experienced heavy rainfall, over 89% of the casualties occurred in Uttarakhand. As of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Government of Uttarakhand, more than 5,700 people were "presumed dead." This total included 934 local residents.

Happiness Curriculum

Happiness Curriculum is an educational program for children in grades one to eight in schools run by the Government of Delhi. The objective of this program is to improve mental wellbeing of pupils and is based on the science of emotions. The curriculum teaches mindfulness, social-emotional learning, critical thinking, problem solving and relationship building. It has been introduced so pupils build their emotional awareness and incorporate that into decision making, with an objective to equip pupils with the necessary skills and environment to become purpose-driven and explore a nuanced idea of happiness. The introduction of the curriculum into government schools of Delhi has been called a reformative step towards school education in India.
