The 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade "Kholodnyi Yar" is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 1992. It has been described as "one of the most brutally effective" of Ukraine’s front-line brigades.

Poroshenko thanked Kutsyn for his service and stated he had been shell-shocked on 2 July 2014 while combating the 2014 insurgency in Donbass. He had suffered a concussion and was recovering at a hospital.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the professional head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The position was created by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 28 March 2020, before which the Chief of the General Staff was the commander-in-chief.

Medical Forces Command is the specialist corps in the Ukrainian Armed Forces responsible for providing medical services to military personnel and their families. At the beginning of February 2020, the command was established, providing for the unification of the medical service under the leadership of the Commander of the Medical Forces, who in turn is subordinate to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Four operational commands will be created within Medical Forces Command, totalling to 134 people.

From 6 May 2014 to 13 January 2016, he served as Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
