Birthe Wilke is a popular Danish singer. She grew up in a musical family in Copenhagen's Vesterbro area.

Gustav Winckler Danish singer-songwriter

Gustav Frands Wilzeck Winckler was a popular Danish singer, composer and music publisher. He grew up in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen and started his career as a decorator.

Eurovision Song Contest 1957 song contest

The Eurovision Song Contest 1957 was the 2nd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Frankfurt-am-Main, West Germany and was held at the Großer Sendesaal des hessischen Rundfunks on Sunday 3 March 1957. The show was hosted by German actress Anaïd Iplicjian. Like the first edition of the contest, this one was still mainly a radio programme, but there was a noticeable increase in the number of people with televisions.

Congratulations: 50 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest was a television programme organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to commemorate the Eurovision Song Contest's fiftieth anniversary and to determine the Contest's most popular entrant of its fifty years. It took place at Forum, Copenhagen on 22 October 2005. The host broadcaster was Danmarks Radio (DR). Fourteen songs from the Contest's first half-century, chosen through an internet poll and by a jury, contested the event. Thirty-one EBU-member countries broadcast the concert and televoting and juries in these countries decided the winner. A total of 2.5 million votes were cast during the night.

Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest

Denmark has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 47 times since its debut in 1957. Having competed in ten consecutive contests until 1966, Denmark was absent for eleven consecutive contests from 1967 to 1977. Since 1978, they have been absent from only four contests. Denmark has won the contest three times. The Danish qualifying competition for the contest is the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.

"Skibet skal sejle i nat" was the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957, performed in Danish by Birthe Wilke and Gustav Winckler and consequently the first time Danish was heard in the Eurovision.

Jeg rev et blad ud af min dagbog 1958 Raquel Rastenni song

"Jeg rev et blad ud af min dagbog" was the name of the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1958, performed in Danish by Raquel Rastenni.

"Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig" was the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1959, performed in Danish by Birthe Wilke.

"Vi maler byen rød" was the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989, written by Søren Bundgaard (music) and Keld Heick (lyrics) performed in Danish by Birthe Kjær. The English version of the song is called "I'm Chasing Butterflies".

"La belle amour" was the French entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957, performed in French by Paule Desjardins.

"L'enfant que j'étais" was the Swiss entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1957, performed in French by Lys Assia.

France took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time in 1957. The country was represented by Paul Desjardins with the song "La belle amour". Paule Desjardins was a rather unknown singer at the time of the contest. The song was composed by Guy Lafarge and the lyrics were written by Francis Carco.

After their win in 1956, Switzerland continued with their format of a national final to select their entry for the 1957 contest.

Denmark participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 held in Moscow on 16 May 2009. Denmark was represented by Brinck with the song "Believe Again". Two other Danish-born contestants also participated at the 2009 Eurovision contest: Susanne Georgi represented Andorra and Yohanna represented Iceland.

Denmark was represented by Birthe Wilke, with the song '"Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig", at the 1959 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 11 March in Cannes, France. "Uh, jeg ville ønske jeg var dig" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 12 February. Wilke had previously come third for Denmark in the 1957 contest in a duet with Gustav Winckler, who was one of her competitors in the 1959 DMGP.

Denmark was represented by Dario Campeotto, with the song '"Angelique", at the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 18 March in Cannes, France. "Angelique" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 19 February.

Denmark was represented by Ulla Pia, with the song '"Stop - mens legen er go'", at the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 5 March in Luxembourg City. "Stop - mens legen er go'" was chosen as the Danish entry at the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix on 6 February.
