The 2005 Saint Louis mayoral election was held on April 5, 2005 [1] to elect the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri. It saw the reelection of incumbent mayor Francis Slay to a second term.
The election was preceded by party primaries on March 8. [2]
Incumbent mayor Francis Slay was challenged for renomination by alderman Irene J. Smith as well as by Bill Haas.

The mayor of St. Louis is the chief executive officer of St. Louis's city government. The mayor has a duty to enforce city ordinances and the power to either approve or veto city ordinances passed by the Board of Aldermen.
Francis G. Slay is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 45th Mayor of St. Louis, Missouri from 2001 to 2017. The first mayor of the city of St. Louis to be elected to the office four consecutive times, Slay is the longest-serving mayor in St. Louis history. His fourth term started in April 2013. He announced on April 8, 2016 that he would not seek another term as mayor. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Tom Bauer is an American lawyer and politician from St. Louis, Missouri, who served in the Missouri House of Representatives and on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. In 2005 he was recalled from his position as alderman after supporting a controversial redevelopment proposal, using eminent domain to acquire homes to build a gas station. In March 2011, Bauer defeated incumbent 24th Ward alderman Bill Waterhouse in the Democratic primary, but lost to independent candidate Scott Ogilvie in the April general election.

Incumbent Republican Governor Mike Parson ran for and was elected to a full term in office. Parson was elected as lieutenant governor in 2016, but became governor on June 1, 2018 after incumbent Eric Greitens resigned under threat of impeachment by the state legislature. Parson declared his bid for a full term on September 8, 2019. State Auditor Nicole Galloway, Missouri's only Democratic statewide officer and only female statewide officer, was the Democratic nominee and if elected, would have become Missouri's first female governor.

The electoral history of Tishaura Jones spans more than a decade. A member of the Democratic Party, Jones was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2008. In 2012, she was elected as Treasurer of St. Louis, a position she has since held through various elections and primaries. Jones ran for Mayor of St. Louis in 2017, but came second to Lyda Krewson in the Democratic primary; Krewson would later win the general election and become the city's first female mayor. In 2020, following her election to a third term as treasurer, Jones announced she would once again run for mayor in the 2021 election, which was the city's first to use approval voting. Jones won that election over St. Louis Alderwoman Cara Spencer and will be the 47th Mayor of St. Louis.
