The 2009 Legg Mason Tennis Classic (also known as the 2009 Legg Mason Tennis Classic presented by GEICO for sponsorship reasons) was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 41st edition of the event known that year as Legg Mason Tennis Classic, and was part of the ATP World Tour 500 series of the 2009 ATP World Tour. It took place at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C., United States, from August 1 through August 9, 2009. The Legg Mason Tennis Classic was the third ATP stop of the 2009 US Open Series. Unlike previous years, the men's event was field 48 players instead of 32. Second-seeded Juan Martín del Potro won the singles title. [3]

Donald Young (tennis) American tennis player (born 1989)

Donald Oliver Young Jr. is an American professional tennis player. Young had a career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 38 achieved on 27 February 2012 and doubles ranking of No. 43 achieved on 14 August 2017. As a junior he was ranked No. 1 in the world in 2005. His best singles performance in the Grand Slams was reaching the fourth round of the 2011 US Open, as well as the 2015 US Open. In doubles he reached the final of the 2017 French Open partnering Santiago González.

Juan Martín del Potro Argentine tennis player

Juan Martín del Potro is an Argentine professional tennis player. Del Potro's biggest achievement is a Grand Slam title: the 2009 US Open, where he defeated Rafael Nadal in the semifinals and the five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final. He became the first player to defeat both Federer and Nadal during the same major, and the only man outside the Big Three to win a major between the 2005 French Open and the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, a span of 30 tournaments. Other career highlights include reaching the 2018 US Open final, winning the bronze medal in men's singles at the 2012 London Olympics and the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning Indian Wells Masters in 2018, and being part of his country's successful Davis Cup team in 2016; but his career has also been hampered by a succession of wrist and knee injuries.

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour is the elite professional tennis circuit organised by the ATP. Grega Žemlja Slovenian tennis player

Grega Žemlja is a retired Slovenian tennis player. He has won five singles titles and one doubles title on the ATP Challenger Tour. In 2012, he reached the third round of the US Open, the first Slovenian male player ever to reach that stage in a Grand Slam tournament. He is also the first Slovenian ATP player who in 2013 reached third round at Wimbledon. He reached his highest ATP ranking of World No. 43 in singles in May 2013, becoming the first Slovene ATP player to reach the top 50. Žemlja also became the first Slovene player earning over 1 million US dollars in prize money, and he was the highest-paid Slovene player in history until he was passed by Blaž Kavčič. He represented his country as a member of Slovenia Davis Cup team.
