Amy Scheer is an American professional sports executive currently serving as Senior Vice President of Business Operations for the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She previously served as general manager of the Connecticut Whale of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), as well as an executive for several teams in the northeastern United States including the WNBA's New York Liberty and the MLS's New York Red Bulls.

Career

Growing up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, she played tennis in her youth, graduated from Fair Lawn High School and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, earning a degree in sports management. [1] [2]

In 2001, she began a position as a vice-president for the New York Liberty in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). [3] During her time with the Liberty, ticket sales increased by over 130%. [4]

She then spent time working as vice president, marketing and brand development for the New York City FC. [5] In 2015, she was named Chief Commercial Officer of the New York Red Bulls of the MLS. [6] [7] Later in the 2010s, she consulted for the Madison Square Garden Company and Rugby United New York of Major League Rugby.

She was named one of WISE New York City's Women of Inspiration in 2017. [8]

In August 2020, she was hired as general manager of the PHF's Connecticut Whale, taking over from Bray Ketchum, who had chosen to focus on her teaching career outside of sports. [9]

She has been a resident of Fort Lee, New Jersey. [2]

The Connecticut Whale were a professional ice hockey team based in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). They played in Simsbury, Connecticut at the International Skating Center of Connecticut. The team was established in 2015 as one of the four charter franchises of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), which became the PHF in 2021. Their name and colors paid homage to the Hartford Whalers, a former NHL and WHA franchise based in Connecticut. The team folded along with the PHF in 2023 as part of the creation of a new, unified women's league, the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

Amber Cox is a sports executive and current chief operating officer (COO) of the Kansas City NWSL since 2021. Before joining Kansas City, Cox had various sports positions at William Woods University and Columbia College from the 1990s to 2000s. After mostly playing in a bubble environment the previous season due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the PHF commenced the 2021–22 season with a normal travel-based schedule.
