Andrew John Carter [1] JP (born 25 January 1974) [2] is a British Conservative Party politician,who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Warrington South from 2019 to 2024. [3]
Andy Carter was privately educated at Worksop College. He went on to study Economics at the University of Leicester. In 2011 he attended Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. [4]
Carter was group managing director of Manchester-based GMG Radio before the group was taken over by Global Radio in 2014. After leaving radio he worked in a family business and ran a consultancy firm. He was selected as the Conservative candidate for Warrington South in March 2019. [5]
He was elected to the seat of Warrington South at the general election in December that year,gaining the seat from the Labour incumbent. He is a volunteer magistrate. [6]
During his time in office he has served on Committee for the Digital Markets,Competition and Consumers Bill,the Digital Markets Act and the Media Bill. He ran an annual Career Fair with around 40 employers and 1,000 annual attendees. [7] Additionally,he has worked to secure 105 zero-emission electric busses for Warrington. [8]
He announced in May 2023 that he does not intend to seek re-adoption as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservative Party in Warrington South at the 2024 general election. [9]
He also served in the capacity of the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department for Transport prior to Parliament's dissolution. [10]
Carter lives in Lymm with his wife,Aggie,and a son,Harry. [4]
