Austin Reed (born February 22, 2000) is an American football quarterback for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Southern Illinois Salukis, West Florida Argonauts, and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

Austin Reed grew up in St. Augustine Beach, Florida, and attended St. Augustine High School.

College career

Southern Illinois

Reed began his college football career at Southern Illinois.

West Florida

Reed transferred to West Florida in the Summer of 2019. He led the 2019 West Florida Argonauts football team to the NCAA Division II national championship. During the national championship season he totaled 4,084 passing yards with 40 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. [1]

In July 2021, Reed signed the first Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) sponsorship in West Florida history, striking a deal with the Running Wild chain of running stores. [2]

Western Kentucky

After the 2021 season, he entered the NCAA transfer portal and committed in March 2022 to Western Kentucky. [3] He was selected as the team's starting quarterback during summer camp in August 2022. [4]

In his first game at Western Kentucky, he threw four touchdown passes in a 38–28 victory over Austin Peay. [5] Through games played on November 19, he ranked second in the nation with 3,837 passing yards. [6]

On January 6, 2024, Reed announced that he would enter the 2024 NFL draft. [7]

Pete Shinnick is an American college football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at the Towson University in Towson, Maryland. As the head coach of West Florida, Shinnick won the school's first football national championship in 2019. The football team began play in 2016. 2017 was a big year for Shinnick, as he led the University of West Florida Argonauts to the NCAA Division II playoffs, making them the fastest team to do so. He broke the record he held at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, that being three years. Shinnick also won the 2017 AFCA Region 2 Coach of the Year. He later won the 2017 AFCA Division II Coach of the Year. On December 21, 2019, Shinnick won the NCAA D-II National Championship with the UWF Argos in just the program's 4th year of existence.

Brandon Doughty is a former American football quarterback. He played college football at Western Kentucky and was their starting quarterback from 2013 to 2015.

The 2002 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football team represented Western Kentucky University in the 2002 NCAA Division I-AA football season and were led by head coach Jack Harbaugh in his 14th and final season as head coach. They claimed a share of the Gateway Football Conference championship and made the school's third straight appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. After a rocky start, the team rallied to win their last 10 games including the 2002 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game, beating McNeese State, 34–14, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Hilltoppers finished the season ranked number 1 in both final 1AA postseason national polls.

Michael White is an American football quarterback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He played his first two years of college football at South Florida and his last two at Western Kentucky. White was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent one season, before joining the New York Jets the following year. A backup during his first three seasons, White did not see any playing time until 2021 in relief of injured starter Zach Wilson. He later replaced Wilson as the starter near the end of the 2022 season.

The 1997 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football team represented Western Kentucky University in the 1997 NCAA Division I-AA football season and were led by quarterback Willie Taggart and head coach Jack Harbaugh. The team was an independent and earned their first NCAA Division I-AA Playoff berth since 1988, making it to the quarterfinals. The Hilltoppers primarily ran an option offense and were ranked 1st in Rush Offence for NCAA Division I-AA. They finished the season ranked 5th in final I-AA postseason national poll.
