Robert Anthony (born May 15,1948) is a Republican politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Anthony is serving his sixth consecutive six-year term on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission,where he has served since 1989. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate in 2004,and unsuccessful candidate for United States Congress running against Glenn English in 1990. Anthony is term-limited in 2024.
With the retirement of Doug La Follette as Wisconsin Secretary of State in 2023,Anthony became the earliest serving statewide elected official in the United States,not counting federal offices,having held the same office since 1989.
Anthony was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City on May 15,1948. [1] Anthony earned a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania,a master's degree in economics from the London School of Economics,a master's degree from Yale University and a master's degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Anthony was a captain in the United States Army Reserves,worked in his grandfather's retail clothing company C.R. Anthony Co. Worked as a staff economist for the Interior Committee of the United States House of Representatives and as a consultant for the Library of Congress from 1976 to 1979. [2] He was the president of C.R. Anthony Co. (A chain of Oklahoma-based retail stores founded by his grandfather C.R. Anthony in 1922 in Cushing,Oklahoma.) from 1980 to 1987. [2]
Anthony served as a member of the Oklahoma City Council from 1979–1980. He first won election to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) in 1988 and took office in 1989. He was re-elected in 1994,2000,2006,2012,and again in 2018. [2] In 2004 he entered the race to succeed Don Nickles in the United States Senate,but finished third in the primary,losing to Tom Coburn. [3]
Anthony revealed in late 1992 that he had been cooperating in a federal bribery probe,secretly taping utility company representatives who broke laws prohibiting donations to regulators. The scandal was averted at the last minute by a company buyout. [4]
In August 2018,Anthony won the Republican nomination for a seat on the OCC. [5] He went on to face Democrat Ashley Nicole McCray and independent Jackie Short in the November election. [6] Anthony won re-election with 60% of the vote. [6]
In 2023,Anthony filed a 180-page dissent in opposition to Todd Hiett and Kim David's votes to accept a $6 billion fuel cost claimed by Public Service Company of Oklahoma,Oklahoma Natural Gas,and OG&E. He described the price increase as "rotting from a putrid core of greed,public corruption and regulatory capture." [7]

Henry Louis Bellmon was an American Republican politician from the U.S. State of Oklahoma. A member of the Oklahoma Legislature,he went on to become both the 18th and 23rd governor of Oklahoma,mainly in the 1960s and again in the 1980s,as well as a two-term United States Senator in the 1970s. He was the first Republican to serve as Governor of Oklahoma and,after his direct predecessor George Nigh,only the second governor to be reelected.
Dewey Follett Bartlett Sr. was an American politician who served as the 19th governor of Oklahoma from 1967 to 1971,following his fellow Republican,Henry Bellmon. In 1966,he became the first Roman Catholic elected governor of Oklahoma,defeating the Democratic nominee,Preston J. Moore of Oklahoma City. He was defeated for reelection in 1970 by Tulsa attorney David Hall in the closest election in state history. He was elected to the United States Senate in 1972 and served one term. In 1978,he was diagnosed with lung cancer and did not run for reelection that year. He died of complications of lung cancer two months after retiring from the Senate in 1979.

C.R. Anthony Co.,stores branded as Anthony's,was a chain of family-owned and - operated upscale department stores founded in 1922 in Cushing,Oklahoma by C.R Anthony. The company began expanding outside Oklahoma,first into Kansas in 1924,then into Texas in 1925. By 1972,Anthony's had 325 stores in 21 states,all west of the Mississippi River. Anthony's was acquired by Stage Stores Inc. in 1997 and most stores were rebranded as Stage or Beall's.

Incumbent Senator Don Nickles decided to retire instead of seeking a fifth term. Fellow Republican Tom Coburn won the open seat.
Brian John Bingman is an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma who has served in elected and appointed offices since the 1990s. A member of the Republican Party,he was first elected to the Sapulpa city commission in 1992,before being elected mayor by his fellow commissioners in 1994. He would serve in both of these offices until 2004,when he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives to represent the 30th district. After one term in the house,Bingman ran for the 12th district of the Oklahoma Senate in 2006 and would hold the seat until term limited in 2016. In 2011,he was elected by Republican senators to serve as the President pro tempore of the Oklahoma Senate,a position he would hold until retirement in 2016.

Kevin Ray Hern is an American businessman and politician from Oklahoma. A Republican,he is a member of the United States House of Representatives for Oklahoma's 1st congressional district. Born in Missouri and raised in Pope County,Arkansas,Hern graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1986 and briefly attended the Georgia Institute of Technology before returning to Arkansas to work for McDonald's the following year. In 1997 he bought his first McDonald's franchise and in 1999 he earned his MBA degree from the University of Arkansas,Little Rock. After moving to Oklahoma in 1999,Hern expanded his McDonald's franchises,eventually owning 18 franchises in the Tulsa metropolitan area. In 2018,he ran his first campaign for office and was elected to the United States House of Representatives.
The 2022 United States Senate election in Oklahoma was held on November 8,2022,to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Oklahoma. Incumbent senator James Lankford won re-election to a second full term,defeating cybersecurity professional Madison Horn in a landslide,winning all 77 counties by more than 50% of the vote in each one.
The 2022 Oklahoma Senate general election were held on November 8,2022. The primary elections for the Republican,Democratic,and Libertarian parties' nominations took place on June 28,2022. Runoff primary elections,if no candidate received 50% in the June 28 vote,took place on August 23. All candidates had to file between the days of April 13–15,2022. Oklahoma voters elected state senators in 24 of the state's 48 Senate districts. State senators served four-year terms in the Oklahoma Senate.
E. R. Hughes was an American politician who was the first Republican to serve on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. He served two nonconsecutive terms from 1921 to 1927 and from 1929 to 1935.
