Cape Town City Football Club was an association football club based in Cape Town, South Africa. The club competed in the National Football League (NFL) from 1962 until the league was dissolved in 1977. Cape Town City won the NFL title in 1973 and 1976, as well as the NFL Cup in 1970, 1971 and 1976. Home matches were played at Hartleyvale Stadium in Observatory.

The 1999–2000 Premier Soccer League, known as the 1999–2000 Castle Premiership for sponsorship purposes, was the fourth season of the Premier Soccer League since its establishment in 1996. The season began on 30 July 1999 and ended on 4 June 2000. Mamelodi Sundowns once again managed to secure their crown, sealing their third successive PSL title. Along with their success in the PSL's predecessor - winning three National Soccer League titles in 1988, 1990 and 1993 - this gave Mamelodi Sundowns their 6th South African championship. Sundowns tallied 75 points for the season, equalling the points record they jointly set with Kaizer Chiefs last season, but unlike the previous season in which the title was decided by goal difference, there was no close title race this season as Sundowns finished comfortably ahead of second placed Orlando Pirates with an 11-point margin.

The National Football League (NFL) was the first professional association football league in South Africa, established in 1959. At first the NFL received stiff opposition from the SAFA, the amateur governing body which controlled the major football grounds in the county. The SAFA was a member of FIFA at the time.

The NFL Cup was the association football cup competition of the National Football League in South Africa under Apartheid. It was established in 1959 and disbanded in 1977. The competition was only eligible to teams made up of white players.
