Cumbres Institute

Cumbres Institute (in Spanish: Instituto Cumbres) is a series of Catholic and bilingual schools. The first Cumbres Institute was founded in Mexico City, Mexico, by the Legionaries of Christ in 1954 in the neighborhood of Lomas de Chapultepec.[ citation needed ]. Many years later, there were many campuses extending all over Mexico and other Latin Americain countries such as Brazil, Chile, Spain, and Venezuela.[ citation needed ] The first Cumbres campus was founded in Lomas de Chapultepec in 1954 with the name of “Instituto Cumbres de Lomas”. In recent years, the Cumbres Institute has been involved in controversy. Particularly noteworthy is the fight that occurred in June 2017 between students of the school against students of the Irish Institute of Mexico City [1] Due to these and other incidents, Instituto Cumbres decided to change its name to Prepa Anahuac, associating itself with Universidad Anahuac. In recent years, the Cumbres Institute has been involved in controversy. Particularly noteworthy is the fight that occurred in June 2017 between students of the school against students of the Irish Institute of Mexico City [2] Due to these and other incidents, Instituto Cumbres decided to change its name to Prepa Anahuac, associating itself with Universidad Anahuac.

The Irish Institute is a Catholic private school in Greater Mexico City. Operated by the Legionaries of Christ, the grounds, located in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, have separate areas for boys and girls, plus a third one for the coed preschool. The school levels in total range from preschool to bachillerato, equivalent to the American K-12.

On January 10, 2020, an 11-year-old student identified as José Ángel Ramos Betts, armed with two guns, opened fire at the facilities of Colegio Cervantes Campus Bosque, a private school in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, killing a teacher and wounding multiple teachers and classmates. The assailant wore a white t-shirt that read "Natural selection" and pants with black suspenders, which were reported as referring to Eric Harris, one of the perpetrators of the Columbine High School massacre.
