Daniel Anthony Feetham KC MP is a Gibraltarian lawyer and former politician who served as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD) from 2013 to 2017.
Mr Feetham was one of the founders of the Gibraltar Labour Party in 2001. The Gibraltar Labour Party has since merged with the Gibraltar Social Democrats. [1]
He obtained a history degree from the University of Reading and a law degree from the University of Manchester. He is a barrister in England and Gibraltar and a Member of the Gibraltar Parliament. From 2004 to 2006 he was a member of the Gibraltar delegation that negotiated a new Constitution with the UK and co-ordinated the yes vote campaign in the referendum on the new Constitution in 2006. The new Constitution was adopted in Gibraltar in 2007.
He served as Gibraltar's first Minister of Justice from 2007 to 2011. In the 2011 general election the GSD was defeated by a very narrow margin but Mr Feetham was elected to Parliament 52 votes behind the then leader Peter Caruana. Mr Feetham became deputy leader of the GSD in 2012 and in February 2013 he was elected as leader of the GSD and became Leader of the Opposition until June 2017 when he stepped aside for family reasons.
On 2 November 2010,Mr Feetham was stabbed in the back while out walking in Library Street with his children. [2] Police arrested the attacker while the Minister underwent emergency surgery in St. Bernard's Hospital. His attacker was on bail at the time on charges of attempted murder of a doctor at St Bernard's Hospital and stabbed Mr Feetham because he had been declined,by a judge,legal aid to retain an English QC to represent him rather than having local representation. The knife attack cut his spleen in half which had to be removed. Despite the serious nature of the attack Mr Feetham survived. The attacker is serving a life sentence. [3]
Daniel Feetham was appointed one of Her Majesty's Counsel in December 2016.
In 2003,he contested the General Election as leader of the Gibraltar Labour Party.
In 2007,he contested the General Election as a candidate for the Gibraltar Social Democrats. He was elected as an MP and as Minister for Justice.
In 2013,he contested the leadership of the GSD after Peter Caruana stood down. He beat his opponent Damon Bossino and was elected GSD Leader and subsequently as Leader of the Opposition.
He is married to his wife and has 2 children. His brother,Nigel Feetham KC,is also a Legal Partner (and Head of Financial Services) at Hassans and is now serving as an MP and Minister for Financial Services,Gaming and Justice (the latter that Daniel served as the inaugural minister from 2007 to 2011) with the GSLP-Liberal Government since the 2023 Gibraltar general election.
The politics of Gibraltar takes place within a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic British Overseas Territory,whereby the Monarch of the United Kingdom is the constitutional head of state represented by the Governor of Gibraltar. The Chief Minister of Gibraltar is the head of Government. As a British Overseas Territory,the Government of Gibraltar is not subordinate to the Government of the United Kingdom. The British Government,however,is responsible for defence and external affairs but Gibraltar has full internal self-government under its 2006 Constitution.

The GSD was the governing party for four successive terms in office under the leadership of Peter Caruana,from the 1996 general election until the party's electoral defeat in the 2011 election by the GSLP–Liberal Alliance.

General elections were held in Gibraltar on 11 October 2007. The incumbent Chief Minister Peter Caruana narrowly won a fourth term,but opposition leader Joe Bossano had a very strong showing. Joe Bossano noted that this would be his last term as an MP,and joked that he would not join the government,despite receiving a higher personal vote than some members of the Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD).

Fabian Raymond Picardo is a Gibraltarian politician and barrister serving as Chief Minister of Gibraltar and Leader of the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party since 2011. At the 2015 and 2019 Gibraltar general elections,Picardo was re-elected to two further four-year terms. He was re-elected for another term in the 2023 Gibraltar general election.
Charles Arthur Bruzon was a Gibraltarian politician and former Roman Catholic priest. He was affiliated with the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party (GSLP). In the general elections of 2011,he was elected to the Gibraltar Parliament and appointed Minister for Housing and the Elderly.
