Daphne Matziaraki is a Greek director, writer and producer, graduated from University of California, Berkeley. [1] Her thesis-film 4.1 Miles (with Kyriakos Papadopoulos) received critical appraisal and recognition earning her a Gold Medal at 43rd Annual Student Academy Awards, [2] [3] The film went onto receive a nomination for Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) at the 89th Academy Awards. Academy Awards Annual awards for cinematic achievements

The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit for the American and international film industry.

The Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film is an award for documentary films. In 1941, the first awards for feature-length documentaries were bestowed as Special Awards to Kukan and Target for Tonight. James Francis Ivory is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. For many years, he worked extensively with Indian-born film producer Ismail Merchant, his domestic as well as professional partner, and with screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. All three were principals in Merchant Ivory Productions, whose films have won seven Academy Awards; Ivory himself has been nominated for four Oscars, winning one.

The Student Academy Awards are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in an annual competition for college and university filmmakers.

Last Day of Freedom is a 2015 American black and white and color animated short documentary film about racism, the US Criminal Justice System, and mental health issues. The documentary was well received by critics and earned numerous awards at various film festivals, and The International Documentary Association Best Short Documentary Award, at the 31st Annual IDA Documentary Awards. Last Day of Freedom was shortlisted with ten other documentaries from 74 entries submitted to 88th Academy Awards in Documentary Short Subject category, and eventually received a nomination in this category. In June 2016 the film won an Emmy Award for News and Program Specialty -Documentary-Topical, at the 45th Annual Northern California Area Emmy® Awards. The film was a finalist for a Documentary Short, 59th Cine Eagle Award.

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 2016, and took place on February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, at 5:30 p.m. PST. During the ceremony, AMPAS presented Academy Awards in 24 categories. The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, was produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd and directed by Glenn Weiss. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony for the first time.

<i>4.1 Miles</i> 2016 Greek film

4.1 Miles is a 2016 short documentary film about a Hellenic Coast Guard captain on the Greek island of Lesbos charged with the task of saving thousands of migrants crossing the Aegean Sea during the European migrant crisis. The film was directed by Daphne Matziaraki.

Juanjo Giménez Peña is a Spanish director and filmmaker. He is best known for his films Indirect Free Kick (1997), Rodilla (2009), "Nitbus" (2007), Maximum Penalty (2005) and Timecode that earned him Short Film Palme d'Or at 69th annual Cannes Film Festival and received Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film nomination at the 89th Academy Awards. He is also the founder of the production companies Nadir Films and Salto de Eje.

Anna Udvardy was a Hungarian film producer and production manager. Best known for her work on Sing as producer, which earned her critical appraisal and recognition including an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017. Udvardy died on 23 May 2019, at the age of 69.

Kevin Wilson Jr. is an American filmmaker, best known for his film, My Nephew Emmett for which he received critical acclaim and was winner at Student Academy Award, and received an Academy Award nomination for Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
