Daryl Lafayette Jones (born May 31,1955) is a Democratic Politician from Miami,Florida,United States. [12]
The son of public school teachers,Jones was born in Jackson,Mississippi,the oldest of four children. He attended Lanier High School where he was elected President of the Mississippi State Association of Student Councils and in 1973,graduated valedictorian. He subsequently attended the United States Air Force Academy,where he was the middleweight boxing champion,cadet vice wing commander and a 1977 honor graduate majoring in mathematics. [13] [14] He is the first African-American graduate of a military academy from Mississippi. He has one sister and two brothers.
Lt. Jones became an F-4E pilot in the United States Air Force. He was transferred to the 90th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Clark AB in the Philippines and became flight leader and mission commander in Team Spirit and Cope Thunder exercises. In 1981,Capt. Jones arrived at Homestead AFB,FL,as an F-4 Phantom ll instructor pilot,twice named the 31st TTS Outstanding Instructor Pilot and 6 consecutive classes of student pilots named him their Outstanding Instructor Pilot. Jones left active Air Force duty in 1984 and enrolled at the University of Miami School of Law. The university awarded Daryl its highest honor,the Iron Arrow. He graduated cum laude in 1987 after serving as president of both the Student Bar and National Bar Associations. Jones worked as a federal judicial clerk for Judge Peter Fay in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals,then as an Assistant Dade County Attorney at Miami International Airport. He joined the Puerto Rico Air National Guard as an A-7D Corsair ll fighter pilot. In 1989,Captain Jones transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Homestead AFB and became an F-16 Falcon fighter pilot. He rose to the rank of colonel as an Air Force Reservist.
Jones was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1990. After his first session,the Miami Herald named him Freshman Representative of The Year. On August 24,1992,Hurricane Andrew devastated Representative Jones' House District while he was in the midst of a campaign for the State Senate.
From 1992 to 2002,he served in the Florida Senate. Senator Jones immediately went to work,sponsoring the Hurricane Andrew Trust Fund Bill,which appropriated more than $650 million over four years to help rebuild the devastated area. South Dade County largely recovered in only four years. Senator Jones also sponsored and passed the Rosewood Bill,the only legislation in American history to grant reparations to African Americans. Uniquely qualified as an Air Force Officer,Lawyer,and Statesman,Senator Jones successfully defended the existence of Homestead AFB before 2 Realignment and Closure Commission Boards in the 1990s. In 1995,Senator Jones was elected Democratic Senate President-designate. The next year,President Clinton appointed Senator Jones to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. In 1998 he was President Bill Clinton's choice to be Secretary of the Air Force but was not confirmed. [13]
In 2002,Jones was the first African-American to run for Governor of Florida.[ citation needed ]
On September 14,2006,he was chosen as a nominee for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Florida by gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis.
Jones currently resides in Miami. He has three children:Derek,Durel,and Michele. He has spent the past several years running his own real estate investment and consulting firm,D.L. Jones &Associates and is president of The Law Offices of Daryl L. Jones,P.A.,a law firm specializing in foreclosure defense and loan modifications.
Tyndall Air Force Base is a United States Air Force Base located 12 miles (19 km) east of Panama City,Florida. The base was named in honor of World War I pilot 1st Lt. Frank Benjamin Tyndall. The base operating unit and host wing is the 325th Fighter Wing of the Air Combat Command (ACC). The base hosts 2,902 active duty members. In October 2018,Hurricane Michael caused significant damage to the base.
The Nineteenth Air Force is an active Numbered Air Force of the United States Air Force. During the Cold War it was a component of Tactical Air Command,with a mission of command and control over deployed USAF forces in support of United States foreign policy initiatives. Donald Ray McMonagle is a former astronaut and a veteran of three shuttle flights. He became the Manager,Launch Integration,at the Kennedy Space Center,Florida,on August 15,1997. In this capacity he was responsible for final shuttle preparation,launch execution,and return of the orbiter to KSC following landings at any other location. He was chair of the Mission Management Team,and was the final authority for launch decision.
John Phillip Jumper is a retired United States Air Force general,who served as 17th Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force from September 6,2001 to September 2,2005. He retired from the Air Force on November 1,2005. Jumper was succeeded as Chief of Staff by General T. Michael Moseley.

The Southeast Air Defense Sector (SEADS),was a unit of the US Air Force located at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City,Florida. It provided air defense and surveillance of the southeastern region of the US. SEADS closed in winter 2005,giving up surveillance and control of their airspace to the Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS) and the former Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS).

He is a former four-star general in the United States Air Force and served as the sixth Commander,Air Force Materiel Command,Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,Ohio. The command conducts research,development,test and evaluation,and provides acquisition management services and logistics support necessary to keep Air Force weapon systems ready for war. After over 37 years of service,he retired from the Air Force on January 1,2009. Carlson served as a general authority and a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from April 2009 to October 2015.

It is a fictional exaggeration based on Faulkner's experience as a cadet-pilot for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1918.
The 482d Fighter-Interceptor Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last assignment was with Montgomery Air Defense Sector at Homestead Air Force Base,Florida in 1969. During World War II the squadron was a replacement training unit until disbanded in 1944 when the Army Air Forces converted training units to Army Air Force Base Units. It was reconstituted in 1955 and served as a fighter interceptor squadron until 1969.
Charles Quinton Brown Jr. is a United States Air Force general who is serving as the 21st chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since October 1,2023. He most recently served as the 22nd chief of staff of the Air Force from 2020 to 2023. Brown entered the Air Force in 1984. A fighter pilot,he has logged over 3,000 flight hours,including 130 hours in combat. Joseph Lauren Lengyel is a retired United States Air Force four-star general who last served as the 28th chief of the National Guard Bureau from August 2016 to August 2020. As chief,he was responsible for ensuring that nearly 460,000 Army National Guard and Air National Guard personnel are accessible,capable and ready to protect the homeland and to provide combat capabilities to the United States Army and the United States Air Force. Lengyel is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours primarily in the F-16.

Cassagnol was an aviation classmate and roommate of Daniel James Jr.,the first-ever African American four-star general.
