Contents

He is the older brother of former light middleweight world champion of boxing, Matthew Hilton.

Professional boxing career

He briefly held the WBC super middleweight title after defeating Dingaan Thobela in December 2000, but shortly thereafter, the WBC stripped it from him after child molestation charges were leveled against him. Hilton suffered only two losses in his career, to fellow Canadians Stephane Ouellet, and Alain Bonnamie. He later avenged the loss to Bonnamie, and has previously knocked out Ouellet twice.

Hilton was found guilty in 2001 of sexually abusing his daughters when they were under 14 years old, Jeannie, born in 1981, and Anne Marie, born in 1983, between 1995 and 1998, and was sentenced to seven years in jail in a facility 110 kilometers northwest of Montreal. [1] [2] In May 2006, Hilton was granted parole and was freed on June 20. He made his return to the boxing ring in May 2007 and won a unanimous decision. Hilton's daughters have written a book, Le Coeur au beurre noir (The Heart with a Black Eye), describing their abuse in detail. [1] In September 2004, a Quebec judge lifted a publication ban on the identities of the daughters so they could publish the book. An English translation is in progress.

On August 20, 2007, Hilton was arrested by police and returned to jail for breaching conditions of his release. It was reported that Hilton assaulted his wife and made threats. He was acquitted on the charges of assault and death threats but remained detained pending the decision of Commission nationale des libérations conditionnelles due to his conditional release violations. [3]

Dave Hilton was again arrested on September 28, 2010, and charged with threats and assault, along with his brother, Jimmy Hilton. [4]

Hilton remarried in September 2012, and had another daughter in March 2013. [5]

Tony Ayala is considered one of the most promising boxing wasted talents by boxing writers and historians, as his career cut short after he was imprisoned in 1983, at the age of 19. His first shot at the world title never happened due to his personal troubles and later conviction, while his second shot proved unsuccessful, as he was 40 years old and out-of-shape by that time.

He remains the most recent undisputed middleweight champion, having won the WBA (Undisputed), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring middleweight titles in 2005 by beating Bernard Hopkins, and in doing so ending Hopkins' ten-year reign as middleweight champion. This made Taylor the first, and to date, only male boxer in history to claim each title from all four major boxing sanctioning organizations in a single fight. He once again defeated Hopkins six months later, making him the only fighter to have defeated Hopkins twice. He retired as a world champion in the months that followed his capture of the IBF middleweight title for a second time, after making a substantial recovery from a brain injury sustained earlier in his career.

Catholic sexual abuse cases in Australia, like Catholic Church sexual abuse cases elsewhere, have involved convictions, trials and ongoing investigations into allegations of sex crimes committed by Catholic priests, members of religious orders and other personnel which have come to light in recent decades, along with the growing awareness of sexual abuse within other religious and secular institutions.

Catholic Church sexual abuse cases in Canada are well documented dating back to the 1960s. The preponderance of criminal cases with Canadian Catholic dioceses named as defendants that have surfaced since the 1980s strongly indicate that these cases were far more widespread than previously believed. While recent media reports have centred on Newfoundland dioceses, there have been reported cases—tested in court with criminal convictions—in almost all Canadian provinces. Sexual assault is the act of an individual touching another individual sexually and/or committing sexual activities forcefully and/or without the other person's consent. The phrase Catholic sexual abuse cases refers to acts of sexual abuse, typically child sexual abuse, by members of authority in the Catholic church, such as priests. Such cases have been occurring sporadically since the 11th century in Catholic churches around the world. This article summarizes some of the most notable Catholic sexual abuse cases in Canadian provinces.

The Catholic sexual abuse scandal in Europe has affected several dioceses in European nations. Italy is an exceptional case as the 1929 Lateran Treaty gave the Vatican legal autonomy from Italy, giving the clergy recourse to Vatican rather than Italian law.

The response of the Haredi Jewish community in Brooklyn, New York City, to allegations of sexual abuse against its spiritual leaders has drawn scrutiny.
