Aguascalientes is the capital of the Mexican state of the same name and its most populous city, as well as the head of the Aguascalientes Municipality; with a population of 934,424 inhabitants in 2012 and 1,225,432 in the metro area. The metropolitan area also includes the municipalities of Jesús María and San Francisco de los Romo. It is located in North-Central Mexico, which roughly corresponds to the Bajío region within the central Mexican plateau. Under the Political Constitution of the Free and Sovereign State of Durango, the exercise of the Executive authority of this Mexican government unit is reserved for an individual known as the Constitutional Governor of the Free and Sovereign State of Durango. This post is held for a period of 6 years, and no re-election is permitted. The governor's term begins on September 15 of the year of the election and finishes on September 14 after having passed six years. The post is open to all citizens meeting the following criteria: a natural born citizen of Mexico, at least 30 years of age, and a resident of Durango for an unbroken period of 5 years prior to election.

José Antonio Álvarez Lima is a Mexican politician and senator representing the state of Tlaxcala in the LXIV Legislature of the Mexican Congress. A member of the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) political party, Álvarez Lima was also Governor of Tlaxcala from 1993 to 1999 and previously served as a federal deputy, senator, ambassador to Colombia, and head of multiple national public broadcasters.

General elections are scheduled to be held in Mexico on 2 June 2024. Voters will elect a new president to serve a six-year term, all 500 members of the Chamber of Deputies and all 128 members of the Senate of the Republic. The members of the legislature elected on this date will be the first allowed to run for re-election in subsequent elections. These elections are taking place concurrently with the country's state elections.

José Refugio Reyes Rivas was a Mexican architect, author of some of the most representative buildings of the city of Aguascalientes, where his work is considered part of the historical and architectural heritage. Reyes did not have professional architectural studies, so he is called "empirical architect". In 1985 he received the post mortem title of architect, granted by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. Reyes completed more than 200 buildings in the states of Zacatecas, Jalisco and Aguascalientes. He was characterized by his use of diverse decorative styles, from neoclassical to Art Nouveau, as well as construction innovations of the first half of the 20th century.

Enriqueta Medellín was a Mexican surgeon and environmentalist. Raised in Mexico City, from a young age she participated in projects to clean up the city and became interested in the links between disease and the environment. She earned a degree as a medical surgeon from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and specialized in human genetics. She also studied environmental education and management.
