Huntington High School (HHS) is a public high school in Huntington, New York, United States. It is part of the Huntington Union Free School District.
In 2018, Huntington High School was at the center of a controversy surrounding the deportation of a Honduran student seeking asylum. Documented in the New York Times, Alex was wrongly accused by Huntington High School of being part of a gang. "Despite all these warning signs, when the ICE agents came to Alex's house on June 14, 2017, he was shocked into silence. It was only when they were far from Huntington, passing through unfamiliar, rundown Long Island towns, that he was able to get out the words to ask why he was being arrested. Alex says the agent first asked him to guess, and then told him, "We received a report a while ago from the school that you were a gang member, and that's why." [2]

Beach Channel High School (BCHS), was a high school in the public school system of New York City, located at 100-00 Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Park in the borough of Queens. The school opened in 1973 and, as of 2006, had an enrollment of 2,175 students. The school was built on the edge of Jamaica Bay and has a private dock. It offered a College Now program, which allows students to get college credit through programs at Rikers Island, Kingsborough Community College and Southampton College, while LaGuardia Community College offers classes for reading skills improvement. A separate special education school was located in one wing of the campus. In November 2009, the New York City Department of Education announced that the school may be closed in 2010 as a low-performing school. Beach Channel High School graduated its last class in 2014. The building now houses several small schools, including the separate one-wing special education school.
Barbara Rose Johns Powell was a leader in the American civil rights movement. On April 23, 1951, at the age of 16, Powell led a student strike for equal education opportunities at R.R. Moton High School in Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. After securing NAACP legal support, the Moton students filed Davis v. Prince Edward County, the only student-initiated case consolidated into Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision declaring "separate but equal" public schools unconstitutional.

Thirteen Reasons Why is a young adult novel written by Jay Asher in 2007, which follows the story of Hannah Baker, a high school freshman, and the thirteen reasons why she has died by suicide. Following her death, Hannah leaves behind a series of seven double-sided cassette tapes detailing the thirteen specific people and events that she blames for her demise. Two weeks after her death, these cassette tapes are mailed out with directions to pass the tapes on to the next person on the tape. Hannah's life story is conveyed through these tapes, which are narrated by Hannah herself, and through the point of view of Clay, her classmate and the ninth person to receive the tapes. The inspiration behind the main character, Hannah Baker, comes from author Jay Asher's close relative who attempted suicide.
