The mass media in Romania refers to mass media outlets based in Romania. Television, magazines, and newspapers are all operated by both state-owned and for-profit corporations which depend on advertising, subscription, and other sales-related revenues. The Constitution of Romania guarantees freedom of speech. As a country in transition, the Romanian media system is under transformation.
Antena 1 is a Romanian free-to-air television network owned by the Antena TV Group, part of the Intact Media Group. Its programming consists of television news programs, soap opera shows, football matches, entertainment programmes, movies and television series.
Traian Băsescu is a Romanian conservative politician who served as President of Romania from 2004 to 2014. Prior to his presidency, Băsescu served as Romanian Minister of Transport on multiple occasions between 1991 and 2000, and as Mayor of Bucharest from 2000 to 2004. Additionally, he was elected as leader of the Democratic Party (PD) in 2001.
Dan Voiculescu, also known as "Varanul" or "Felix Voiculescu", is a Romanian politician and businessman. He is the founder and former president of the Romanian Humanist Party (PUR), later renamed the Conservative Party (PC). He was a senator from 2004 until his resignation in 2012.
The Conservative Party was a conservative political party in Romania. It was founded in 1991, approximately two years after the fall of Communism in Romania, originally under the name Romanian Humanist Party. From 2005 until 3 December 2006, the party was a junior member of the Government of Romania. The party adopted the name Conservative Party on 7 May 2005. Subsequently, a little bit more than a decade after, more specifically in June 2015, it merged with the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) to form the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE).
Antena 3 Cable News Network, known as Antena 3 CNN, formerly Antena 3, is a Romanian news channel owned by Antena 3 S.A. and part of the Intact Media Group. An Exclusive News Partner of CNN International in Romania since September 27, 2022, it focuses on news programmes and current events, mainly with political and economic topics. It was launched on June 27, 2005 as the third Romanian 24-hour news channel, after Realitatea TV being the first television channel launched in 2001 and N24 being the second television channel launched in 2004, which was later transformed into a generalist television channel in 2010.
The Liga I, also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table.
Adrian Bumbescu is a retired Romanian footballer who played as a central defender.
Presidential elections were held in Romania in 2009. They were the sixth presidential elections held in post-1989 Romania. The first round took place on 22 November, with a run-off round between the top two candidates Traian Băsescu and Mircea Geoană on 6 December 2009. Although most exit polls suggested a victory for Geoană in the runoff, the authorities declared Băsescu the narrow winner with 50.33% of the votes. To date, it is the closest presidential election in the political history of Romania.
Gazeta Sporturilor was a daily sports Romanian newspaper, founded in 1924, whose printed edition existed until November 1, 2023, after which only its digital extension remained, GSP.ro, currently one of the largest sports websites in the country. The newspaper was the third most long-lived daily newspaper in Europe with 99 years of uninterrupted publication.
Mircea Radu Badea is a right-wing libertarian conservative Romanian political satirist, television host, media critic, radio personality and occasional actor. He is widely known as host of În gura presei a show based on the daily news, that airs on Antena 3.
Antena Stars is a Romanian television channel. It started broadcasting on 9 April 2007 and it is a part of the Intact group, owned by the family of the Romanian businessman and politician Dan Voiculescu.

The second television channel followed in 1968, but between 1985 and 1990, there was only one Romanian channel before the return of the second channel. Private broadcasters arrived in December 1991, with SOTI which was the first private nationwide television station in Central and Eastern Europe. Romania has the highest penetration rates for pay television in the world, with over 98% of all households watching television through cable or satellite.
GSP TV was a private commercial television channel from Romania, focused on sports shows. It was launched on July 26, 2008, owned by Antena TV Group. From September 14, 2012 GSP TV became a station for men.

Horia Claudiu Ivanovici is a Romanian journalist and TV show producer. He began his career in 1992 as editor of Evenimentul Zilei. Between 1995 and 1996, he was the head of the Sports department at the Naţional daily journal, and was then appointed deputy editor-in-chief at Sportul Romanesc, during 1996 to 1998. He was transferred to Antena 1, between 1998 and 2000, where he held the position of editor-in-chief of the Sports News Department. From 2000 to 2003, he was the editor-in-chief of Gazetei Sporturilor, a position later held, between 2003 and 2004, with the magazine Life Sport. Beginning in 2006, he became the owner of the Fanatik Romania magazine, after having occupied the position of general manager with the same magazine, a brand further developed through the Fanatik Show TV show, the Fantasticii FanatikGalas and the www.fanatik.ro website.
Steaua Liberă is a sport website created by and for the supporters of Steaua București sports club. The website is widely known among Romanian press, with TV station Antena 1 and other media describing it as a ”hard and influential core” within the CSA Steaua București fans community.

Cătălin Tolontan is a Romanian sports journalist and editor known for his investigative work for the sports newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor. His investigation into the deaths of victims of the 2015 Colectiv nightclub fire was featured in the 2019 documentary film Collective.
