Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. [1] It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia. [2] The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues. [3] International Tiger Day has been shown to be effective in increasing online awareness on tigers through information search. [4]
The seventh annual Global Tiger Day was celebrated in various ways around the world. Local events have been organized in Bangladesh, Nepal, and India as well as non-tiger-range countries such as England and the United States. [11] The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) continued its promotion of the "Double Tigers" campaign through investing in rangers. [12] Several companies partnered with WWF to help raise awareness. [13] [14]
More awareness in the entire world of tiger populations and the challenges for their conservationists. India counts the number of wild tigers every four years and showed a promising rise from 1411 in 2006 to 2226 in 2014. [15] The trend for rising population of tigers in India is as follows:
In April 2023, the Prime Minister expressed happiness that India is home to 75% of the world's tiger population in the 75th year of Indian independence. It is also a coincidence, the Prime Minister continued, that the tiger reserves in India cover 75,000 square kilometers of land and in the past ten to twelve years, the tiger population in the country has increased by 75 percent. On July 29, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the number of Indian tigers had grown to 3,000. [18]

In India, the tiger population has shown a significant increase, reaching 3,682, up from 2,967 in 2018. This marks a notable rise of almost 24% within a span of four years. These figures reflect a positive trend, surpassing the 3,167 tigers reported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Mysore on April 9. This announcement coincided with a program commemorating 50 years of Project Tiger, a renowned conservation initiative globally acclaimed for its efforts.

Parsa National Park is a national park in the Terai of south-central Nepal covering an area of 627.39 km2 (242.24 sq mi) in the Parsa, Makwanpur and Bara Districts and ranging in elevation from 435 to 950 m in the Sivalik Hills. Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is a protected area and tiger reserve located along the area straddling both the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats in the Erode District of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Sathyamangalam Forest Division is part of the Bramhagiri-Nilgiris-Eastern Ghats Elephant Reserve notified in 2003. In 2008, part of the Sathyamangalam Forest Division was declared a wildlife sanctuary and enlarged in 2011, it covers a forest area of 1,411.6 km2 (545.0 sq mi). It is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu. In 2013, an area of 1,408.6 km2 (543.9 sq mi) of the erstwhile sanctuary was notified as a tiger reserve. It was the fourth tiger reserve established in Tamil Nadu as a part of Project Tiger and is the third largest in the state.

National Highway 275 (NH-275), also commonly referred to as Bengaluru–Mysuru access-controlled Expressway, part of the Bengaluru–Mangaluru Economic Corridor (EC-34), is a national highway that starts from Bengaluru and goes through Mysuru as a 6-lane expressway of 119 km (74 mi), and again as 4-lane till Bilikere, and ends at Bantwal. This highway connects the coastal city of Mangaluru to Bengaluru. It is also a bypass route for the National Highway 75 (NH-75). The Bengaluru to Mysuru section of this highway was upgraded from 4 to 10 lanes, out of which the 6-lane section is the main elevated access-controlled carriageway and the other 2-lane section on both ends of the carriageway are service roads. It claims to reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru from 3 hours to 75 minutes.
