Isaiah J. Thompson (born April 29, 1997) is an American jazz pianist and composer. In 2023 he won the American Pianists Awards. [1]
Thompson was born on April 29, 1997. He grew up in West Orange, New Jersey and attended Montclair Kimberley Academy. [2] At an early age, he began studying at the Calderone School of Music and later studied with Jazz House Kids, NJPAC Jazz for Teens and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He received his Bachelor's and Master's of Music degrees from The Juilliard School. [1]
He made his recording debut on the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis album, Handful of Keys [3] and has since released multiple recordings as a leader. [4] Thompson worked on the Golden Globe nominated soundtrack for Motherless Brooklyn [5] and has performed with major artists including: Christian McBride, Steve Turre, John Pizzarelli, Joe Farnsworth, Buster Williams, Ron Carter, and Catherine Russell. Thompson was a jazz piano winner for the National YoungArts Foundation and received awards at both the Essentially Ellington and Charles Mingus competitions. [3] In 2016 Thompson won the Horace Parlan Talent Award at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen. He was awarded the 2018 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award and, in the same year, earned second place in the Thelonious Monk Competition. Wynton Learson Marsalis is an American trumpeter, composer, and music instructor, who is currently the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has been active in promoting classical and jazz music, often to young audiences. Marsalis has won nine Grammy Awards, and his oratorio Blood on the Fields was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Marsalis is the only musician to have won a Grammy Award in both jazz and classical categories in the same year.

He appeared on the television series Cosby as a pianist.

Neo-bop refers to a style of jazz that gained popularity in the 1980s among musicians who found greater aesthetic affinity for acoustically based, swinging, melodic forms of jazz than for free jazz and jazz fusion that had gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s. Pedrito Martinez is a Cuban percussionist, drummer, singer, dancer, bandleader, songwriter, composer, and educator. He was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. He is a Cuban Conguero performing classic Cuban Rumbas, Afro-Cuban folkloric and religious music. He is a Santería priest. He came to the United States of America from Havana in 1998. He plays the Batá drum, conga, cajón, timbale, and bongo drums, among other percussion instruments. Pedrito learned his craft from the streets of Havana, Cuba. He has performed with Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo O'Farrill, Brian Lynch, and Bruce Springsteen. He settled in the New York City - New Jersey area in 1998.
Elio Villafranca is a Cuban jazz pianist and composer. He was born in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río, and studied in the faculty of music of the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. He worked on Things I Wanted to do by Chembo Corniel, which was nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards; his album Cinque was nominated in 2020. In 2014 he received the first JALC Millennium Swing Award. He teaches at the Manhattan School of Music, at Temple University, and at the Juilliard School of Music, where he specializes in jazz ensemble.
