Justine Burns is a South African economist who is director of the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT),where she is also a professor. She is a research associate at the university's Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDU) and Research Unit in Behavioural Economics and Neuroeconomics (RUBEN). [1]
Burns's research interests,primarily in behavioural economics,include discrimination,trust and social capital,social networks and labour markets,and intergenerational mobility. She has also published research about social assistance programmes. She received UCT's Distinguished Teacher Award in 2006 [2] and was admitted to the Academy of Science of South Africa in October 2021. [3]

Janette Deacon is a South African archaeologist specialising in heritage management and rock art conservation. She has studied the changes in stone tools from sites in the southern Cape in relation to climate change over the past 20,000 years. From 1985,she located rock engravings at places where the /Xam informants of Wilhelm Bleek and Lucy Lloyd lived in the nineteenth century. She served as a member of the SAHRA Council and was first chairperson of Heritage Western Cape.

Rosina Mamokgethi Phakeng is a South African professor of mathematics education who in 2018 became a vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT). She has been the vice principal of research and innovation,at the University of South Africa and acting executive dean of the College of Science,Engineering and Technology at UNISA. In 2018 she was an invited speaker at the International Congresses of Mathematicians. In February 2023 it was announced that she would leave her position as vice-chancellor of UCT and take early retirement. She was succeedded by Professor Daya Reddy on 13th of March 2023

Sakhele Buhlungu is a South African sociology professor and university administrator. He is the current vice chancellor of University of Fort Hare and the former dean of humanities at University of Cape Town. Buhlungu's work focuses on the labour and other social movements. He has also taught at the University of the Witwatersrand,the University of Johannesburg,and the University of Pretoria. At Fort Hare,his efforts to combat corruption lead to threats that culminated in a January 2023 assassination attempt that killed his bodyguard. Before academia,Buhlungu worked as a teacher and was the assistant general secretary of the Paper,Printing and Allied Workers' Union.
Tania S. Douglas was a Professor of Biomedical Engineering,Research Chair in Biomedical Engineering and Innovation as well as Director of the Medical Imaging Research Unit in the University of Cape Town (UCT),South Africa. She conducted research concerning medical innovation,image analysis,and the development of technologies to improve medical device innovation in South Africa. She was also the founding Editor-in-Chief of Global Health Innovation,a journal which disseminates research results about health innovation in developing settings.
The 2021 Table Mountain fire is a major fire that started on 18 April 2021 in and around Table Mountain National Park and the neighbourhoods of Newlands,Rosebank,Mowbray and Rondebosch in Cape Town,South Africa. The damage to sites in the Table Mountain area included the Rhodes Memorial,where a restaurant burned down;the upper campus of the University of Cape Town (UCT),where the Special Collections library was gutted;and Mostert's Mill,a historic windmill that burned down. In addition,five firefighters were hospitalised.
Alison Lewis is a South African chemical engineer known for her research in crystallisation and precipitation as applied to the recovery of valuable metals. She is Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and is a member of UCT’s Senior Leadership Team.
