Kevin Callinan (born 1959 or 1960) is an Irish trade unionist.

Callinan grew up in the Northside area of Dublin, and began his working life with Dublin Corporation, as a library assistant. He joined the Local Government and Public Services Union, and later began working for the union. When the union became part of the new Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union (IMPACT), he was steadily promoted until he became deputy general secretary. [1]

In 2018, IMPACT became part of the new Fórsa union, and Callinan continued as deputy general secretary. The following year, he was elected to the top post of general secretary. Later in the year, he was also elected as secretary of the public service committee Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU). [1] He was elected as president of ICTU in 2021, in which post he called for increased wealth taxes to fund improved public services. [2]

Callinan is a fan of Manchester United F.C. and has described Alex Ferguson as one of the people he most admires. [1]

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is the largest Irish professional union for nurses and midwives with 35,000 members. It was founded in 1919 after World War I, when a group of Irish nurses and midwives had a meeting in Dublin to discuss the issues in promoting an improvement in wages and advocating for a standard to be set for the conduction of their duties in the medical profession. This new organisation focused on increasing awareness towards tackling problems of pay and pension. They encouraged participation in recognising these changes by recruiting new members and establishing a standard for nursing and midwifery practice through educational initiatives. They were originally known as the ‘Irish Nurses Union’. In the 1930s, they began to promote their campaigns internationally by becoming affiliated with the International Council of Nurses. To this day they are still active and are based at the Whitworth Building in North Brunswick, Dublin.
