2013 Lahad Datu standoff

The 2013 Lahad Datu standoff, also known as the Lahad Datu incursion, was a military conflict that started on 11 February 2013 and fully ended on 24 March 2013. The conflict began when 235 militants, some of whom were armed, arrived by boats in Lahad Datu District, Sabah, Malaysia from Simunul island, Tawi-Tawi, in southern Philippines. The group, calling themselves the "Royal Security Forces of the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo", was sent by Jamalul Kiram III, one of the claimants to the throne of the Sultanate of Sulu.

Azizah Mohd Dun Malaysian politician

Dato' Hajjah Azizah binti Mohd Dun is a Malaysian politician. She is the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Beaufort constituency in Sabah, presently representing the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) since 2019. Cross border attacks in Sabah

The cross border attacks in Sabah are a series of cross border terrorism perpetrated by the Moro pirates from Mindanao on Sabah that began even before the British colonial period. Many civilians have died or suffered during these incidents, causing an increase in anti-Filipino sentiment among the native peoples of Sabah, especially after major attacks in 1985, 2000 and 2013. The attacks were more intense during the presidential terms of Diosdado Macapagal and Ferdinand Marcos who supported irredentist claims to include eastern Sabah as part of the Philippines territory. In addition with the recent infiltration and attacks by militants as well the uncontrolled human migration from Mindanao to Sabah that has led to more unease sentiments among the local residents of Sabah, with around 78% prison inmates that were caught in the state due to involvement in criminal activities and lawlessness issues are mainly originated from the southern Philippines.

Pakatan Harapan

Pakatan Harapan (PH) is a Malaysian political coalition which succeeded the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. At the federal level, it was the ruling coalition for 22 months from May 2018 when it won the 2018 Malaysian general election to February 2020 when Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister in its administration resigned. It was established in September 2015 as an opposition political coalition against the then-ruling Barisan Nasional coalition that ruled the nation from its independence in August 1957 to its defeat in the 2018 Malaysian general election in May 2018 for almost 61 years. It is currently the largest political coalition with 91 seats in the Dewan Rakyat. While at the state level, it is the ruling coalition in three of the 13 states in the nation, which are Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. Proposed 2019 amendment to the Constitution of Malaysia

On 4 April 2019, a bill proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Malaysia was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat of the Parliament of Malaysia. The bill proposes to amend Article 1(2) so as to restore the status of the two East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak according to the original content of Malaysia Agreement that was signed in 1963.

The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation is a multiracial political party based in Sabah, Malaysia. The party was rebranded from its previous party's name, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation using the same UPKO acronym; which was a widely known Kadazan-Dusun-Murut based party in 2019. The party had earlier been renamed once before in 1999 from its initial 1994 formation name of Sabah Democratic Party.

The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached Sabah, Malaysia, in March 2020. As of 27 January 2021, there are 47,737 confirmed cases.
