List of active ships of the Chilean Navy

This is a list of active ships of the Chilean Navy , which is one of the three branches of the Chilean Armed Forces. The Chilean Navy's mission is to provide the Chilean State with naval power and an effective maritime service, to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, maintain the security of the nation and support national interests when necessary and in any place required. [1]

Contents

To fulfil its mission, the Chilean Navy has more than 130 commissioned ships of various sizes and roles; four attack submarines, eight major surface combatants (frigates), more than ninety minor surface combatants (patrols), four amphibious ships, three survey vessels, eleven auxiliary ships, one training ship and several minor support vessels of various roles who are only identified by their unofficial name or their pennant number. Also included is a nominal ship, the Ironclad Huáscar, which is really just a ceremonial ship and historical relic. [2]

There are also small patrol boats built by the American company SAFE Boats International in Port Orchard, Washington, which are named and identified only by their pennant number: [58]

There is a cooperation agreement between SERNAPESCA and the Chilean Navy for the latter institution to operate the Pumar inspection boat model WR1250 Explorer called Guerrero PM-1250, built by ASMAR, Valparaíso and commissioned in 2020. [65] [66]

There are also three second-hand support landing ships that were acquired from France in 2011 together with the landing platform dock (LPD). These are the LCU Soldado Canave of the CDIC class (750 tons); built by SFCN in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, and the LCM Cabo Reyes and Soldado Fuentes of the CTM class (152 tons); both built by CMN in Cherbourg. There are also two small support boats for shallow water research work. The boat Albatros LH-01, acquired in 2008, and a Defender-class boat, acquired in 2015 from the American company SAFE Boats International and identified with the pennant number LH-02. [80] [81]

They are small naval units of the Chilean Navy that usually serve as a complement to larger vessels, and that are not included in the previous list. This is due to their particular characteristics, and also they do not have a name or pennant number, and the number of units is unknown.

HMS <i>Norfolk</i> (F230) 1990 Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy

HMS Norfolk was a British Type 23 frigate, the sixth in the Royal Navy to use this name, laid down in 1985 by Yarrow Shipbuilders. She was launched on the Clyde by Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon in July 1987 and named for the Dukedom of Norfolk. She was commissioned on 1 June 1990. Norfolk was the 'first of class', as well as being the first of a new generation of 'lean manned' ships. She was commissioned into the Chilean Navy in 2006 as Almirante Cochrane.

HMS <i>Marlborough</i> (F233) 1991 Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy

Almirante Condell is a Duke-class Type 23 frigate in service with the Chilean Navy. It entered service with the Royal Navy in 1991 with the name HMS Marlborough as the sixth ship to bear the name. She was named after John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, and served in the Middle East. The frigate was taken out of service in 2005 and sold to Chile. The vessel entered service with the Chilean Navy in 2008 and was renamed Almirante Condell after Carlos Condell, a Chilean naval officer during the War of the Pacific. The ship was significantly upgraded from 2020 to 2021 and remains in service.

HMS <i>Grafton</i> (F80) Frigate of the Royal Navy

HMS Grafton is a Type 23 frigate formerly in service with the Royal Navy. She was the ninth vessel to bear the name, and is named after the Duke of Grafton. Ordered in January 1992, Grafton was laid down on 13 May 1993 by Yarrow Shipbuilders. The frigate was launched on 5 November 1994 and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 29 May 1997 with the pennant number F80. In 2007 the ship was transferred to Chile as Almirante Lynch and, having undergone a significant upgrade from 2019 to 2020, remains in service with the Chilean Navy.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ecuadorian Navy</span> Military unit

The Ecuadorian Navy is an Ecuadorian entity responsible for the surveillance and protection of national maritime territory and has a personnel of 9,400 men to protect a coastline of 2,237 km which reaches far into the Pacific Ocean. The vessels are identified by a ship prefix of B.A.E.: Buque de la Armada del Ecuador or L.A.E.: Lancha de la Armada del Ecuador.

The Quidora was one of four torpedo boats built in Spain for the Chilean Navy since 1962, based originally in the Jaguar-class fast attack craft FPB-36 design of the German Lürssen Werft. Her sister ship Fresia PTF-81 is now a museum ship in Punta Arenas.

ARA <i>Bartolomé Cordero</i> Bouchard-class offshore patrol vessel of the Argentinian Navy

ARA Almirante Bartolomé Cordero (P-54) is the fourth and final Gowind-class offshore patrol vessel constructed for the Argentinian Navy.

ARA Indómita (P-86) is an Intrépida-class fast attack craft of the Argentine Navy. The vessel has a twin sister ship, ARA Intrépida. It is the first Argentine ship to bear the name.
