This list includes the date of hiring and the performance record of National Basketball Association (NBA) head coaches. The league consists of 30 teams, of which 29 are located in the United States and one in Canada. In the NBA, a head coach is the highest ranking coach of a coaching staff.
Gregg Popovich has served as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs for 28 years. No other current NBA head coach has been head coach of his current team as long as Popovich has been head coach of the Spurs. Popovich has also coached more games (2,209), won more games (1,388), and lost more games (821) than any other active head coach has with his current team. Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is the second longest-tenured NBA head coach, having been head coach of the Heat since the 2008–09 season. Popovich is the only active head coach inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach. [1] He is the only current head coach to have been hired by his current team in the 1990s.
As of May 9, 2024, 15 coaches have spent their entire NBA head coaching careers with their current teams: Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs, Erik Spoelstra with the Miami Heat, Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, Taylor Jenkins with the Memphis Grizzlies, Mark Daigneault with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chris Finch with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Will Hardy with the Utah Jazz, Chauncey Billups with the Portland Trail Blazers, Jamahl Mosley with the Orlando Magic, Brian Keefe with the Washington Wizards, Willie Green with the New Orleans Pelicans, Joe Mazzulla with the Boston Celtics, Darko Rajaković with the Toronto Raptors, Jordi Fernández with the Brooklyn Nets, and Charles Lee with the Charlotte Hornets.
Popovich, Spoelstra, Kerr, and Michael Malone have won NBA championships with their current teams, while Rick Carlisle, Tyronn Lue, Nick Nurse, Mike Budenholzer, and Doc Rivers have won with their former teams.

The National Basketball Association's Coach of the Year is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1962–63 NBA season. The winner receives the Red Auerbach Trophy, which is named in honor of the head coach who led the Boston Celtics to nine NBA championships from 1956 to 1966. The winner is selected at the end of the regular season by a panel of sportswriters from the United States and Canada, each of whom casts a vote for first, second and third place selections. Each first-place vote is worth five points; each second-place vote is worth three points; and each third-place vote is worth one point. The person with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award.
Tyronn Jamar Lue is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Lue formerly served as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, helping them win their first and only NBA title.
Ime Sunday Udoka is a Nigerian-American professional basketball coach and former player, who is the head coach for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in the United States, he represented the Nigeria national team during his playing career. After retiring as a player, Udoka served as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets before becoming the head coach of the Boston Celtics, whom he led to the 2022 NBA Finals. After being suspended for the entire 2022–23 season, Udoka was hired by the Rockets in April 2023.
Larry Donnell Drew is an American professional basketball coach and former player who serves as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Michael Vincent Budenholzer is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach of the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Kenneth Neil Atkinson is an American professional basketball coach and former player who serves as assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was previously the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020. Atkinson was born in Huntington, New York and played college basketball for University of Richmond leading the Spiders to a Sweet Sixteen berth in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 1988.

Mark Daigneault is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He spent five seasons as the head coach for the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder's G-League affiliate, before becoming the head coach for the Thunder.
William Hardy is an American professional basketball coach and former collegiate player who is the head coach for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
