Takhar Province Province of Afghanistan

Abdul Haq Shafaq is an ethnic Hazara politician in Afghanistan. He is the former governor of Faryab, Daykundi, Samangan and Sar-e Pol provinces.

Abdul Latif Ibrahimi was a Governor of the Afghan Provinces Kunduz, Samangan, Faryab and Takhar.

Sayed Ikramuddin Masoomi was born in 1953 in Ashkmash district of Takhar. Masoomi has worked as the Director of Enterprises for the Ministry of Finance, as Deputy Minister of Finance as later as Governor of Takhar and Badakhshan Provinces. After his time as Governor he became Minister of Labor and Social Affairs under President Karzai. In 2004 he was appointed as Minister of Work, Social Affairs, Martyred and Disabled. He was replaced in 2006 by Noor Mohammad Qarqeen. Sayed Ekramuddin Masomi then served for more than a year as Governor of Baghlan Province.

The district has been the site of fighting between the Afghan Government and the Taliban; Baharak was considered to be contested in late 2018 and taken by the Taliban by August 2021.

Khwaja Bahauddin District is a district of Takhar Province, Afghanistan. The district was created from a portion of Yangi Qala District in 2005. 25 villages are located in Khwaja Bahauddin.

On June 30, 2016, at least 40 people were killed and 50 people were wounded after two Taliban suicide bombers attacked police cadets returning from a graduation ceremony west of the capital city, Kabul. The attacks followed the Kabul attack on Canadian Embassy Guards and occurred during the Kunduz-Takhar highway hostage crisis. The attacks all occurred during the holy month of Ramadan.

Yasin Zia Former Chief of General Staff in Afghanistan

General Mohammad Yasin Zia, is an Afghan military officer and politician. He is a former Chief of General Staff, former Deputy Defense Minister, and former governor of Takhar Province, Afghanistan. Zia has also served as head of Afghanistan's counter terrorism unit (2011) and as the deputy director of the National Directorate of Security (2011–2015).

General Ahmad Faisal Begzad, also called Ahmad Beig, is a former governor of Takhar Province. He assumed the role on 20 September 2012 and was previously the acting governor of Faryab Province. He left office in 2013 and became governor of Badakhshan in 2015.
