MV APL Austria is a Liberian-registered container ship. [1] The ship is owned by Marugame Kisen Kaisha and operated by American President Lines (APL).

Description

APL Austria is a post-Panamax container ship measuring 71,867  gross tonnage  (GT) with a capacity of 6,350 TEU. She is a type Imabari 6350 container ship constructed in 2007 at the Koyo Dockyard Co. Ltd Shipyard in Mihara, Japan.

2017 fire

On February 13, 2017, [2] APL Austria caught fire near the South African coast, 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of Cape St. Francis. The ship was on its voyage from European ports to Asian ports with 8,235 containers when a fire broke out in the ship's middle cargo hold. Four non-essential crew members evacuated from the ship, one evacuee suffered a leg injury and was treated on shore. [3] The fire took more than three days to bring under control and resulted in more than 40 feet (12 m) of water filling hold number 4. [4] She was subsequently repaired and returned to service.

USS <i>Boulder Victory</i> (AK-227)

USS Boulder Victory (AK-227) was a Boulder Victory-class cargo ship acquired by the US Navy during World War II. She was the lead ship of 20 ships in her class. She carried ammunition into the Pacific Ocean war zone and, on 20 December 1944 at Manus, New Guinea, she struck a naval mine and suffered a very large hole in her side.

Sea Witch was a MARAD Type C5-S-73b container ship built at the Bath Iron Works shipyard for American Export-Isbrandtsen Lines. She operated in the Atlantic trades for five years. So engaged on the evening of June 1, 1973, the vessel was involved in a disastrous collision with the oil tanker Esso Brussels in lower New York Harbor and was damaged so badly that she was removed from active service.

<i>MSC Flaminia</i> German container ship

MSC Flaminia is a German container ship which caught fire on 14 July 2012, claiming three lives and forcing the crew to abandon ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. After the fire had been brought under control, the stricken container ship was towed to Europe and arrived at Wilhelmshaven, Germany, on 9 September 2012. In March 2013, she departed Wilhelmshaven for Mangalia, Romania for repairs which were finished in July 2014.

<i>MOL Comfort</i> Container ship

MOL Comfort was a 2008-built Bahamian-flagged post-Panamax container ship chartered by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. The vessel was launched in 2008 as APL Russia and sailed under that name until 2012, when the ship was renamed to MOL Comfort. On 17 June 2013, she broke in two about 200 nautical miles off the coast of Yemen. The aft section sank on 27 June and the bow section, after having been destroyed by fire, on 11 July.

<i>CCNI Arauco</i>

The CCNI Arauco is a large container ship that experienced a major fire in the Port of Hamburg on September 1, 2016. The vessel was only a year old, having been built in the Philippines, in 2015, at the Hanjin Subic Shipyard.

<i>Maersk Honam</i>

Maersk Honam is a container ship operated by Maersk Line. The vessel caught fire on 6 March 2018 while sailing in the Arabian Sea. Five members of the crew of 27 were killed, including one rescued crew member who died later from injuries.

The Daniela class is a series of eight container ships operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company and built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. The ships have a maximum theoretical capacity of 13,798 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).

MT New Diamond is a very large crude carrier. On 3 September 2020, the ship caught fire off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, resulting in the death of a Filipino crew member. After burning intermittently for almost a week, the fire was reported to be extinguished by 11 September.
