Mercedes Arn-Horn (born 1994 [1] ) is a Canadian musician, songwriter, director and actor. [2] She is the lead singer and guitarist of Canadian rock band Softcult, [3] and was formerly the lead singer, guitarist and keyboardist of the Canadian rock band Courage My Love. [4]

Early life

Mercedes Arn-Horn was born in Toronto. One of her first influences was going to an Alice Cooper concert at the age of 11.

Courage My Love

Mercedes formed Courage My Love in 2009 with her twin sibling Phoenix Arn-Horn (drums, vocals, keyboards) and David Blake-Dickson (bass). The band were signed to Warner Canada in early 2010 after being discovered at a Battle of The Bands competition in their home town of Kitchener, Ontario. Arn-Horn was 17 years old when she signed the deal. [5] Brandon Lockwood replaced David Blake-Dickson on bass in 2012.

Courage My Love have released seven EPs and two full-length albums and have toured both in Canada and internationally with bands such as Simple Plan, As It Is and Halflives.

Softcult

Mercedes formed Softcult in 2020 with her twin sibling [6] Phoenix Arn-Horn (drums, vocals). They were signed to British label Easy Life Records in 2020.

Softcult released its debut EP, Year Of The Rat, in 2021. A follow-up EP, Year Of The Snake, was released in 2022. Their third EP, See You In The Dark, was released in 2023.

<i>Spit</i> (album) 1999 studio album by Kittie

Spit is the debut studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Kittie, originally released on November 13, 1999, through Ng Records. Kittie were formed in 1996, and signed to Ng in 1999 after Jake Weiner, the record label's second-in-command, witnessed one of the band's shows. Produced by Garth Richardson, Spit was recorded over nine days in May 1999 at EMAC Studios in London, Ontario, and was completed in August 1999. Spit is a nu metal album that incorporates various elements from several heavy metal subgenres, and its lyrical themes include sexism, hatred, ignorance, betrayal, bullying and life experiences. The album is Kittie's only release with their original line-up, featuring bassist Tanya Candler and guitarist Fallon Bowman; Candler was replaced by Talena Atfield, who appears on the cover of all subsequent reissues of the album.

The City on Film is the official name of Bob Nanna's solo act. He began solo recordings in 1997 during the off-time between Braid tours. These recordings began to accumulate, and in May 2004 he recorded I'd Rather Be Wine Drunk in a Salt Lake City hotel room during a Hey Mercedes tour. Ringworm is an American metalcore band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1989. Their name was derived from a Vincent Price movie. The band has toured extensively in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe and has released four albums via Victory Records. Halflives is an alternative rock band originally from Modena, Italy but now based in Paris, France. After releasing their debut 8-track record "Empty Rooms" in 2017, they toured Europe and the UK supporting Courage My Love. In 2018 they headlined several tours in mainland Europe and the UK and released two standalone singles "Crown" and "Fugitive". Early in 2019 they toured in the UK supporting The Faim and Chapel and appeared at Rock for People. In 2020 they released their EP "Resilience", including the single "Time Bomb" featuring Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens. They toured Europe early 2020 with Icon for Hire and released their single "Villain" in November of that year. Their next EP "V" came out on July 2, 2021, and includes the singles "Victim", "Vibe", "Valkyrie" and "Villain". In 2022 they toured Europe with Halocene.

See You in the Dark is the third extended play by Canadian grunge duo Softcult, released on March 24, 2023 through Easy Life Records. It was recorded in 2022 between their tours that year, and consists of material that was left off the duo's previous EP, Year of the Snake (2022). Although still containing elements of grunge, See You in the Dark is less musically heavy than the duo's prior output, with its more atmospheric sound being based in shoegaze and pop. As with most of Softcult's work, the EP's lyrics touch on a variety of personal and political subject matters, including toxic masculinity, trauma and insecurities.
