Minister for Seniors and Volunteering

Minister for Seniors and Ageing and Minister for Volunteering are positions in the government of Western Australia, currently held by Mick Murray of the Labor Party. The position of "Minister for the Aged" was first created in 1984, for the government of Brian Burke; in 2005 a combined "Minister for Seniors and Volunteering". This arrangement was terminated in 2017 when they were made into separate portfolios. The ministers' portfolios fall within the state government's Department of Local Government and Communities.

The Government of Western Australia, formally referred to as Her Majesty's Government of Western Australia, is the Australian state democratic administrative authority of Western Australia. It is also commonly referred to as the WA Government or the Western Australian Government. The Government of Western Australia, a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, was formed in 1890 as prescribed in its Constitution, as amended from time to time. Since the Federation of Australia in 1901, Western Australia has been a state of the Commonwealth of Australia, and the Constitution of Australia regulates its relationship with the Commonwealth. Under the Australian Constitution, Western Australia ceded legislative and judicial supremacy to the Commonwealth, but retained powers in all matters not in conflict with the Commonwealth.

Michael Philip Murray has been a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since February 2001. He represented the electorate of Collie from 2001 to 2005 and has represented the electorate of Collie-Preston since an electoral redistribution in 2005.

First Rudd Ministry cabinet

The First Rudd Ministry (Labor) was the 65th ministry of the Government of Australia, and was led by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. It succeeded the Fourth Howard Ministry upon its swearing in by Governor-General Major-General Michael Jeffery on 3 December 2007 after the 2007 election, and was replaced by the First Gillard Ministry on 24 June 2010 when the deputy leader, Julia Gillard, became prime minister.

The Carpenter Ministry was the 34th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia, and was led by Labor Premier Alan Carpenter and his deputy Eric Ripper. It succeeded the Gallop Ministry on 3 February 2006 due to the retirement of Dr Geoff Gallop from politics on 25 January, and was in turn succeeded by the Barnett Ministry on 23 September 2008 after the Labor Party lost government at the state election held on 6 September.

The Barnett Ministry was the 35th Ministry of the Government of Western Australia. It included 13 members of the Liberal Party, three members of the National Party and an independent. It was led by the Premier of Western Australia, Colin Barnett, and Deputy Premier Liza Harvey. The minister was responsible for the state government's Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD).

The position was first created after the 1993 state election, for the government of Richard Court. The minister is responsible for the state government's Department of Commerce.

He was Professor in History and Politics in the School of Social Sciences and Asian Languages at Curtin University of Technology until his retirement in 2002, and is now Professor Emeritus.
