The Neal Manufacturing Company was a neckerchief slide company based in Biddeford, Maine. It was founded by C. Millard Neal, proprietor of Neal's Novelty Shop. [1]
Neal was a Unit and District Level Volunteer with the Pine Tree Council. The company made a large series of bakelite neckerchief slides. They also made many special event slides. Most slides were sold unpainted. Earlier slides have the word "NEAL" written on the neckerchief holder, while later ones say, "NEAL SLIDE", and "NEAL SLIDE ®". The "®" on the last style, the most prevalent, is actually a circled r stands for registered trademark. The period of their manufacture may also be indicated by the color of the resin used. [2]
These were sold to summer camps and local councils, often sold at the trading post. [2] The Scout Museum at the Pine Tree Council offices has a display on these nationally popular plastic slides. The slides featured every imaginable Scout image. Some came pre-painted but most scouts bought the plain ones and painted them themselves. [3]

Scouting in Missouri has a long history, from the 1910s to the present day.
A neckerchief, sometimes called a necker, kerchief or scarf, is a type of neckwear associated with those working or living outdoors, including farm labourers, cowboys and sailors. It is most commonly still seen today in the Scouts, Girl Guides and other similar youth movements. A neckerchief consists of a triangular piece of cloth or a rectangular piece folded into a triangle. The long edge is rolled towards the point, leaving a portion unrolled. The neckerchief is then fastened around the neck with the ends either tied or clasped with a slide or woggle.
The Delaware Water Gap is a water gap on the border of the U.S. states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania where the Delaware River cuts through a large ridge of the Appalachian Mountains. The gap constitutes the southern portion of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which is used primarily for recreational purposes, such as rafting, canoeing, swimming, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is a state park in Monterey County, California, near the area of Big Sur on the state's Central Coast. It covers approximately 1,006 acres (4.07 km2) of land. The park is centered on the Big Sur River. It has been nicknamed a "mini Yosemite." Redwood trees are known to live up to 2,200 years. A tree in the park nicknamed the Colonial Tree is estimated to be between 1,100 and 1,200 years old.
Scouting in Maine dates back to the creation of the Katahdin Area Council in 1920 and has continued prominently to the present day.
Leatherstocking Council is the Boy Scouts of America council which serves Herkimer, Oneida and Madison Counties as well as part of Hamilton, Otsego, Delaware and Lewis counties in the State of New York.
Goshen Scout Reservation is a Boy Scout reservation designated to camping, swimming, hiking and other various activities. Goshen is home to six Boy Scouts of America resident summer camps located near Goshen, Virginia, and is owned and operated by the National Capital Area Council. The camps are all built around Lake Merriweather. First opened to Scouts in the summer of 1967, today it has six different camps covering over 4,000 acres (16 km2) of land. Within Goshen there are three Boy Scout camps, two Cub Scout camps, and one high adventure camp.
Army Men, or plastic soldiers, are toy soldiers that are about 5 cm (2.0 in) tall and most commonly molded from olive green, relatively unbreakable plastic. Unlike the more expensive toy soldiers available in hobby shops, army men are sold at low prices in discount stores and supermarkets in bulk packaging. Army men are sold unpainted and almost always dressed in modern military uniforms and armed with 20th-century weapons. 'Jumbo' Army Men are a less common secondary scale with 4.75" soldiers made with the same process.
Minsi Trails Council is a council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves Scouts of eastern Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley and Pocono regions as well as parts of western New Jersey. The council serves five counties in Pennsylvania: Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Luzerne, and Warren county in New Jersey.
Myles Standish State Forest is state forest located in the towns of Plymouth and Carver in southeastern Massachusetts, approximately 45 miles (70 km) south of Boston. It is the largest publicly owned recreation area in this part of Massachusetts and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
Gulf Hagas is a gorge located in the mountains of northern Maine woods and is often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East. The West Branch of the Pleasant River cuts through the earth for three miles creating a vertically walled slate gorge with numerous waterfalls. A trail follows the rim of the canyon offering hikers views of the falls and its geology. The gorge is 3 miles (4.8 km) long; the river drops 370 feet (110 m) in this distance boasting 130 feet (40 m) walls. Gulf Hagas is one of 14 National Natural Landmarks in the State of Maine, and is open to the public for a fee during the regular season.
The Northern New Jersey Council was formed in January 1999 as a joint venture between the independent councils of Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic counties as an effort to better serve the Scouting communities encompassed in these areas. By drawing on the strengths of each of these individual councils and merging them together, the Northern New Jersey Council has committed itself to offering the finest Scouting programs, increasing membership and providing strong, supportive leadership.
Gerber Scout Reservation (GSR), located in Twin Lake, Michigan is a resident camp owned and operated by the Michigan Crossroads Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It began operation in 1950 and had its first official summer camp program in 1951. The Original property was purchased through a gift of 275 shares from Dan Gerber, President of the famous baby food company. The reservation operates two camps; the Boy Scout Camp, Gerber Scout Camp and the Cub Scout Camp, Betty Ford Cub Scout and Webelos Adventureland, as well as numerous year round weekend programming outside of the summer months.
Monmouth Council, BSA, established in 1917, serves all of Monmouth County, New Jersey and part of Middlesex County, New Jersey. The Council was the starting point for the landmark US Supreme Court case Boy Scouts of America v. Dale.
The Blue Ridge Mountains Council is a Boy Scouts of America council located in Roanoke, Virginia, that serves Scouts in southwest and south central Virginia. The Blue Ridge Mountains Council owns and operates the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation in Pulaski County, Virginia, the largest Council-owned Scout reservation in the United States. The council's Tutelo Lodge is part of the Order of the Arrow.
Water and Woods Field Service Council is a field service council of the Michigan Crossroads Council that serves youth in the central and northeastern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The Council is headquartered in Flint, Michigan with service centers located in Auburn, Lansing, and Port Huron. The Water and Woods Field Service Council is the result of a merger in 2012 of Lake Huron Area Council, Blue Water Council, Tall Pine Council and Chief Okemos Council.
Black Cap Mountain is a 1,020 foot (310 m) mountain in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The mountain is 5 miles (8.0 km) southeast of Eddington, Maine, and the Penobscot River. It is accessible from Maine Route 46, near its intersection with The Airline.
Leetonia is an unincorporated community in Elk Township, Tioga County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It lies along Leetonia Road, in the Tioga State Forest between Pennsylvania Route 414 and U.S. Route 6.
