Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi (died 6 June 2023) was an Afghan Taliban politician who served as the acting governor of Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan. He was assassinated in a car bombing in the provincial capital, Faizabad. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). [1]

Assassination

Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi was the target of a car bombing in June 2023 in Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan. An explosive vehicle was driven into the automobile carrying Ahmadi by a suicide bomber, setting up a huge explosion. Along with the driver of his vehicle, the acting governor died instantly. Additionally, six nearby citizens were hurt in the attack. [2] [3] [4]

The capture of Zaranj, the capital of Nimruz Province, Afghanistan, occurred on 6 August 2021. According to the local officials, only the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and its forces had put up a fight against the Taliban, but they too eventually surrendered to the Taliban. Local officials had been requesting for reinforcements but received no response. Zaranj was the first provincial capital to be taken by the Taliban in their 2021 offensive and the first one to be captured since Kunduz in 2016.

On 8 June 2023, a bombing took place during a mourning service at a mosque in Fayzabad, Badakhshan Province, northern Afghanistan. At least 19 people were killed in the blast, while 38 more were injured. The deputy governor of the province, Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, who was killed that week in a car bombing, was remembered during the memorial service. The attack happened close to the Nabawi Mosque in Fayzabad, the province's capital. The Islamic State – Khorasan Province claimed responsibility for the attack.
