Nunzio Campanile is an American football coach. He is currently the quarterbacks coach at Syracuse University. [1] Campanile served as the interim head coach at Rutgers University for the final eight games of the 2019 season. He was elevated to that position from that of tight ends coach after the firing of head coach Chris Ash and offensive coordinator John McNulty. [2]

Coaching career

High school

Campanile spent the eight years as the head coach at Bergen Catholic, including winning a state title in 2017 against St. Peter's Preparatory School in a 44–7 win, after working as offensive coordinator at Don Bosco Prep from 2000 to 2009. [1]

Rutgers

In 2018 Nunzio joined the Rutgers staff after leaving high school football, and is the team's tight ends coach. [1] The following year he began the season as the team's tight ends coach, however he also served as the interim head coach [3] and offensive coordinator for the final eight games of the 2019 season. In 2020 with the hiring of Greg Schiano, Nunzio was the only holdover from the previous staff and returned to be the team's tight ends coach. [4] On October 9, 2022, following the dismissal of Sean Gleeson, Scarlet Knights' offensive coordinator, Nunzio was named interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. [5]

Syracuse

In January 2023, he was hired as Tight Ends coach at Syracuse University. [6] After head coach Dino Babers was fired on November 19, 2023, Campanile was named the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023 season. [7]

Personal life

Campanile grew up in New Jersey in an Italian-American family full of football coaches. Growing up he watched his father, Mike, coach at Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey for 10 years. Mike and his brother Vito coach at Bergen Catholic High School. Anthony is a part of the Green Bay Packers coaching staff while his other brother Nicky, is a coach at DePaul High School. [8]

Paramus Catholic High School is a co-educational Roman Catholic high school located in Paramus in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school, founded in 1965, under Archbishop Thomas A. Boland, and Superintendent of Schools, Monsignor Joseph P. Tuite, Paramus Catholic operated as a co-institutional school until 1995. Paramus Catholic was staffed by the Brothers of Christian Schools under the leadership of Bro. James P. Paramus Catholic High School is one of several high schools in the Archdiocese of Newark. It has the largest enrollment of any Roman Catholic high school in the state of New Jersey.

Kyle J. Flood is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Texas Longhorns football team. He is also the former head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Flood was named the 29th head football coach of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team after Greg Schiano accepted the National Football League head coaching position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is the first Rutgers football head coach to be promoted from assistant since the 1973 season. Flood is a graduate of Iona College and earned four varsity letters for the Gaels between 1989 and 1992.

This was the second season with Kyle Flood as the head coach, and last season before transitioning to playing in the Big Ten Conference.
