The Pakistan Youth Hostels Association is a non-profit, non-political, voluntary national organization providing hostelling services in Pakistan. It is financed by the Pakistan Youth Hostels Association Trust and by the Government of Pakistan. PYHA is a member of Hostelling International and now operates 16 hostels all over the country. The head office is in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan and four new hostels are under construction in Karachi, Gilgit and Jamshoro. It is registered under the Societies' Act 1860 and is recognized by the Government of Pakistan as a national organization for promoting youth hostelling in the country. It is governed by its Constitution. [1] The current Chairman of the organization is Mr Wasim Sajjad.

Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country in South Asia. It is the world’s sixth-most populous country with a population exceeding 212,742,631 people. In area, it is the 33rd-largest country, spanning 881,913 square kilometres. The Government of Pakistan is a federal government established by the Constitution of Pakistan as a constituted governing authority of the four provinces of a proclaimed and established by the parliamentary democratic republic, constitutionally called the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Hostelling International organization

Hostelling International (HI), formerly known as International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), is a federation of more than 70 National Youth Hostel Associations in more than 80 countries. HI has over 4,000 affiliated hostels around the world. Hostelling International is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation working with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation UNESCO and the World Tourism Organisation UNWTO.

History

In South Asia, youth hostelling started with the formation of a youth hostel group by Mr. W Cowley, ICS, and the then provincial Youth Organizer of the pre-independence Punjab. The first youth hostel was set up at Tara Devi near Simla in 1945.

Pakistan Youth Hostels Association was formed in December 1951. Mr. E.K. John Catchpole of the International Youth Hostel Federation was specially invited in the inaugural function. Later, Pakistan Youth Hostels Association was affiliated with the International Youth Hostel Federation, and the first Youth Hostel in Pakistan was constructed in 1951-52 in Bhurban, under the patronage of Mr. U. Karamat, the then Vice Chancellor of Punjab University. [1]

The University of the Punjab, also referred to as Punjab University, is a public research university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Punjab University is the oldest public university in Pakistan. With multiple campuses in Gujranwala, Jhelum, and Khanspur, the university was formally established by the British Government after convening the first meeting for establishing higher education institutions in October 1882 at Simla. Punjab University was the fourth university to be established by the British colonial authorities in the Indian subcontinent; the first three universities were established in other parts of British India. Student Card There are 45,678 Students who attend the university, and Punjab University has a total of 13 faculties within which there are 83 academic departments, research centers, and institutes. Punjab University has ranked first among large-sized multiple faculty universities by the HEC in 2012. There are also two Nobel Laureates among the university's alumni and former staff. Additionally, the university is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities of the United Kingdom. In the recently issued rankings of Asian universities by QS World Universities Rankings, Punjab University jumped from the 232nd to 193rd position, improving its position by 39 places. Punjab University also ranks 251-300 in the subject of Agriculture and Forestry, 501-550 in the subject of Physics & Astronomy and 501-550 in the subject of Chemistry according to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019.

Pakistan Youth Hostels Association Trust

The PYHA Trust safeguards the money and property of the Association. It has an executive committee and a managing trustee. The income from the Trusts investments and properties is used to finance the running of the Association. [1]

The Pakistan Sports Board is supported by the Pakistan Sports Trust, which assists hard up players and associations so they can continue participating in sports.

The United States Youth Council (USYC) was a nonprofit coalition of organizations which served youth and young adults in the United States. It was founded in 1945 by the National Social Welfare Assembly as that organization's youth division, but became independent in the early 1960s. In 1967, The New York Times revealed that the USYC had received more than 90 percent of its funds from the Central Intelligence Agency, leading many of the organization's largest members to quit. National Youth Awards

The National Youth Awards are conferred annually by the Government of Pakistan to high-achieving and distinguished men and women from all over the country. These awards are conferred after a competitive selection process, which commences in late June every year and culminates in the announcement of the awards on the eve of the International Youth Day on 12 August.

Chiltan Adventurers Association Balochistan is a non-profit government adventure sports association in Balochistan, Pakistan. It consists of young boys and girls dedicated to the promotion of mountain adventure, sports climbing and associated sports. Its goals are to protect the new generation from dangerous drug abuse, by providing them with healthy sporting opportunities, organizing training camps, and national and provincial level event expeditions. 95% of all the players receiving training from CAAB are students of schools and colleges in Balochistan. The activities of the CAAB are financed by self-help, donations, and subscriptions of members and annual grant-in-aid from Balochistan Sports Control Board (BSCB) Quetta.

The Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) پاکستان کانو و کایاک فدراسیون, founded on 23 March 2009 is the official national governing body for canoeing and kayaking in Pakistan. Its function is to promote sporting activities and events for canoe and kayak paddlers across the country on a national and international level. PCKF is a non-profit organisation, which represents all people and organisations with a genuine interest in canoeing, kayaking and associated sports, helping them to increase the profile of these sports across Pakistan.

Punjab Educational Endowment Fund

The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) is a program governed by the Government of Punjab to establish opportunities for the bright boys and girls students. It was started in 2008 by its chairman Shahbaz Sharif. It gives the scholarship to bright students which cannot afford their fees.The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) is an initiative of the Government of Punjab. In order to make it more efficient, transparent and autonomous in its functioning, it is registered under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984. The company was registered on 31st Dec. 2008 and an initial endowment fund was established with a seed money of Rs.2 billion. The endowment fund has now been increased to Rs. 8 billion and the Government of Punjab, Pakistan has pledged to raise the endowment fund to Rs. 10 billion during the current FY 2012-13. Only the investment proceeds out of this fund are utilized for the award of scholarships. PEEF is established with the objective of providing scholarships to talented and needy students for pursuing quality education with equal opportunities. The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund endeavors to bring best educational opportunities to the less privileged and talented youth of Punjab, and bring them at par with the most fortunate ones and is striving to achieve the following objectives:

Sports Board Punjab (SBP) is a sports controlling and organisations board in Punjab, Pakistan. It is running by the Government of Punjab. Its head office is located in Lahore. Its chairman is Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and director general is Muhammad Amir Jan, since October 2017 Constitution of Sports Board Punjab was approved by Governor of Punjab on 8 April 1985 for the development and regulation of sports in the Province of Punjab.

Honourable Dr. Allah Bakhsh Malik |اللہ بخش ملک' UNESCO Confucius Laureate is an academic, researcher, development economist, social scientist, management and institutional development specialist. He is a member of Pakistan Administrative Service, Central Superior Services of Government of Pakistan, Pakistan. He has also led the professional teams in development sector in inter-sectoral, multi-temporal and cross-disciplinary fields at national and international level. Malik was conferred United Nations's UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy with the title of The Honourable and a Degree in recognition of leadership role for the promotion of Literacy and Skill Development in the Punjab province on September 8, 2011. In 2011 he was decorated with the UNESCO Confucius Award and the title of Honourable Mention for his leadership role in promoting education and skills development for the less-affluent and disenfranchised. Dr. Malik has this unique distinction since he is the first Pakistani and Muslim who has been conferred the Confucius Award by UN-UNESCO. Dr. Malik represented Pakistan and Asia Pacific nations on the Board of Global Partnership for Education - GPE, The World Bank for three years.
