R. Hali was a former Director of Agriculture of the state of Kerala and the first Principal Information Officer of the Farm Information Bureau (FIB) of Kerala. [2] [3] He was a pioneer of farm journalism in Kerala.

After completing his studies at the agriculture university in Bangalore, Hali started his career as an agriculture officer with the Rubber Board in 1955, before moving to the Agriculture Department of Thiru-Kochi in 1956 and, in 1957, the State Agriculture Department of Kerala. [2] When the information services of the agriculture and animal husbandry departments of the state were combined to form the Farm Information Bureau (FIB) on 1 January 1969, Hali took over as its first Principal Information Officer. He served in that post until 1983. He retired as the director of the agriculture department in 1989. [4]

Hali was instrumental in starting agriculture-related articles in Malayalam daily newspapers. He was among the early authors of articles in Karshikarangam, the column dedicated to agriculture in Mathrubhumi. [5] He was also involved in promoting programs on agriculture in radio and television, including Vayalum Veedum in Akashavani (All India Radio) and Noorumeniyude Koithukar and Nattinpuram in Doordarshan. [1] He was also the first full-time editor of Kerala Karshakan, a monthly farm magazine published by the Government of Kerala since 1954. [6] [3] He also authored a reference book on agriculture in Malayalam titled Krishipadam. His efforts helped in promoting the latest advancements in the field of agriculture among Kerala's farmers. He also played a role in opening Krishi Bhavans and popularising group farming in Kerala. [2] He had also served as a consultant to the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation. [7]

Even after retiring from his official role in the agriculture department Hali continued to be involved in the agriculture sector, writing extensively and communicating with the farming community. He also played the role of an advisor to State governments. [2]

Hali was a recipient of the first Karshaka Bharathi Award for farm journalism and the Kerala Press Academy Award. [2]

Hali was the son of P. M. Raman, the first municipal chairman of Attingal. [1] He was also the brother of R. Prasannan, a former secretary of the Kerala Assembly [4] and R. Prakasam, former MLA of Kerala. [8]

Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri was an Indian writer and scholar of Malayalam literature. Known primarily for his poems, Namboothiri also contributed to other genres such as essays, translations and children's literature. Swathanthrathe Kurichu Oru Geetham, Bhoomigeethangal, Indiayenna Vikaaram and Charulata count among his notable works. The Government of India honored him with the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri in 2014 and the Government of Kerala awarded him the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award in Malayalam, the same year. He was also a recipient of Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions, Asan Prize, Sahitya Akademi Award and Odakkuzhal Award.

S. Hareesh is an Indian writer, translator and screenwriter of Malayalam literature and cinema. He is best known for his short stories and his acclaimed but controversial debut novel, Meesa, which explores caste in Kerala in the mid-20th century. The novel, initially serialized in the Mathrubhumi weekly, was withdrawn after protests by right-wing Hindutva groups and caste-community organizations for “maligning Hindu women and temple priests.”. It was later published as a full novel by DC Books. Hareesh is the recipient of several honours including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel and the Geetha Hiranyan Endowment of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. Anna Ben is an Indian actress who works in Malayalam cinema. The daughter of screenwriter Benny P. Nayarambalam, she made her acting debut with Kumbalangi Nights in 2019. Anna has since starred in the dramas Helen (2019) and Kappela (2020). For the former, she won the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention and for the latter, she won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress.

His 34 year police career attracted several controversies such as undisclosed property of over 50 acres in Tamil Nadu, encroached forest land of 151 acres in the name of his wife in Kodagu, Karnataka among many others.

Vayalum Veedum(Malayalam: Farm and Home) is an Indian-Malayalam language evening radio programme. It is broadcast daily on All India Radio from 18:50 to 19:20. Established in 1966, it is one of the longest-running radio show broadcast from All India Radio with more than 18000 episodes and remains one of the most popular in Kerala. The programme is about the agriculture and rural development, which was begun under the ‘Grow more food’ campaign launched by the central government.
