Sean McGuire (born February 14, 1996) is an American former professional gridiron football quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Western Illinois.

College career

McGuire played college football for Western Illinois from 2014 to 2018. [1]

Professional career

On May 15, 2019, McGuire signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. [2] [3] He made he team as the third-string quarterback and dressed for all 18 regular season games where played sparingly, as he completed two passes from three attempts for 17 yards. He also dressed in all three post-season games, including his first Grey Cup championship where the Blue Bombers defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 107th Grey Cup game. [4]

McGuire signed a one-year contract extension with the Blue Bombers on December 31, 2020. [5] With the departure of the team's previous backup quarterback, Chris Streveler, to the National Football League, McGuire won the back-up position behind starting quarterback, Zach Collaros. McGuire was used regularly on the short yardage team and scored his first two career touchdowns on quarterback sneak plays on September 5, 2021, in the Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. [6] With the Blue Bombers having already clinched the Western Division the Bombers announced that McGuire would be the team' starting quarterback for their Week 15 match against the Montreal Alouettes on November 13, 2021. [7] McGuire completed 11 of 26 passes for 149 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions in his first CFL start as the Bombers were defeated 28–14 by the Alouettes. [8]

He played every season in the league from 1990 to 2006, as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, Edmonton Eskimos, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and finally with the Calgary Stampeders. As of 2007, his all-time CFL passing yardage is third most next to Damon Allen and Anthony Calvillo. He worked as a color commentator for TSN's CFL broadcasts, having previously appeared as a guest analyst on the CFL on CBC late in his playing career. On December 2, 2013, he was named the assistant general manager and director of U.S. scouting for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Previous to that, he served as the director of scouting for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The 2008 CFL season was the 55th season of modern-day Canadian football, the 51st season for the Canadian Football League. It was also the first CFL season in which all of the league's regular season and post-season games, including the Grey Cup game, were aired on TSN. This meant the CFL was no longer aired on broadcast television in Canada. As of 2008, TSN was available in approximately 8.8 million of Canada's 13 million households. Montreal hosted the 96th Grey Cup at Olympic Stadium on November 23, when the championship was won by the Calgary Stampeders.

Dinwiddie later went on to play professionally for the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe, and also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.

Zachary J. Collaros is an American professional Canadian football quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Collaros won the 107th Grey Cup and 108th Grey Cup as the starting quarterback with the Blue Bombers when they defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in both games. He had previously won the Grey Cup as the backup quarterback with the Toronto Argonauts in the 100th Grey Cup. Collaros played football at the University of Cincinnati, and has also been a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.

The Alouettes defeated the Blue Bombers, 28–24. It was the 12th time that Hamilton had hosted the Grey Cup, the previous having been in 2021.
