Spencer Raleigh Ware III (born November 23, 1991) is a former American football running back. He played college football at LSU, and played in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, with whom he won Super Bowl XLVIII as a rookie.
Ware attended and played high school football at Princeton High School. [1] [2]
During his college football career, Ware rushed for 1,240 yards on 292 carries with ten touchdowns. [3] Southeastern Conference coaches named him a second-team All-SEC selection after the 2011 season. [4] He also played 21 games for the LSU Tigers baseball team. [5]
After his junior season, Ware decided to forgo his senior season and entered the 2013 NFL Draft. [6]

Ware was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft with the 194th overall pick. [9] He appeared in two games as a rookie and recorded three carries for ten yards. While Ware saw sparse usage throughout the season, the Seahawks went on to win the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. [10] He was released on August 20, 2014. [11]
On December 31, 2014, Ware signed a future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. [12]
On September 5, 2015, he was waived by the Chiefs and was re-signed to the practice squad. [13] Ware was activated off the practice squad for the Week 8 matchup against the Detroit Lions for the NFL game in London on November 1, 2015. In this game, Ware scored his first NFL touchdown, a four-yard run, in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter against the Detroit Lions. [14] In Week 11, against the San Diego Chargers, he had two rushing touchdowns in the 33–3 victory. [15] In the following game against the Buffalo Bills, he had 19 carries for 114 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in the 30–22 victory. [16] Ware ended the 2015 season playing in 11 games with two starts, rushing for 403 yards and six touchdowns. [17] He scored a rushing touchdown in the Chiefs' Wild Card Round victory over the Houston Texans. [18]
In 2016, with starter Jamaal Charles coming off a knee injury suffered in 2015, Ware became the starter for 2016. In Week 1, against the San Diego Chargers, he had 199 scrimmage yards (70 rushing, 129 receiving) and a rushing touchdown in the 33–27 victory. [19] In Week 6, against the Oakland Raiders, he had 24 carries for 131 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in the 26–10 victory. [20] He started 14 games, rushing for 921 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, he caught 33 passes for 447 yards and two touchdowns. [21]
Coming into the 2017 season, Ware was projected to be the Chiefs' starting running back after the release of longtime starter Jamaal Charles. In the team's third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, Ware suffered a torn PCL and additional knee damage. [22] He was placed on injured reserve on September 2, 2017. [23]
On November 30, 2018, he was named starting running back for the Kansas City Chiefs following the release of starting running back Kareem Hunt after he misled the team regarding an assault alleged to have occurred earlier that year. [24] In his first game as the new starter, Ware achieved 47 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown against the Oakland Raiders. [25] He had 129 scrimmage yards in the 27–24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14. [26] He finished the 2018 season with 246 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. [27]
On April 30, 2019, Ware signed with the Indianapolis Colts. [28] He was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list on August 2, 2019, after undergoing ankle surgery. [29] He was released on September 20, 2019. [30]
On December 3, 2019, Ware was re-signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. [31] He was placed on injured reserve on December 25, 2019, with a shoulder injury. [32] He finished the 2019 season with 17 carries for 51 rushing yards in three games. [33] Without Ware, the Chiefs would go on to win Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers giving Ware his second Super Bowl ring. [34]
On December 22, 2020, Ware signed with the practice squad of the Chicago Bears. [35] His practice squad contract with the team expired after the season on January 18, 2021. [36]

On January 12, 2014, Ware was booked in Seattle's King County Jail under the charge of DUI. [37] However, that case was dismissed in July 2014 after a judge ruled that the officer lacked reasonable suspicion of DUI at the time he initiated the traffic stop. [38]
On June 23, 2016, Ware hosted an event at Full Throttle Indoor Karting "where he provided free transportation, go-karting, and lunch to the thirty kids of the [Winton Hills] Recreational Center." [39] Ware expressed gratitude for all the people who helped him become a professional athlete and encouraged the kids to "work together" to accomplish their goals in life.
Edgerrin Tyree James is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He played college football at the University of Miami for the Miami Hurricanes. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts fourth overall in the 1999 NFL draft. James also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
Jamaal RaShaad Jones Charles is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons, primarily with the Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, where he won the 2006 Rose Bowl, and was selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft.

Stevan Todd Ridley is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the LSU Tigers and was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft. Ridley has also played for the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, and Pittsburgh Steelers. With the Patriots, he won Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks.

He played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 171st overall pick. He spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017 and 2018 before re-signing by Seattle in 2020. He played one season with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL).

He was selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie after leading the NFL in rushing yards but was released during his second season after being recorded physically assaulting a woman, including shoving the woman to the ground and then kicking her. Hunt signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2019 and played five seasons with them.
Christopher Dewayne Carson is a former American football running back. He played professionally for five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL), after playing college football at Butler Community College before transferring to Oklahoma State in 2016. A neck injury during the 2021 NFL season prematurely ended his career.
Rashaad Armein Penny is an American football running back for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs, where, in 2017, he led the nation with 2,248 rushing yards and scored 23 touchdowns on 289 carries, finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting and garnering first-team All-American and All-Mountain West honors. Penny also caught 19 passes for 135 yards and two scores and scored twice on kickoff returns, averaging 30.6 yards on 17 attempts. He also scored a 70-yard touchdown on one of his two punt returns for the year.

Joshua Jacobs is an American football running back for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Alabama and was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. Jacobs rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, while being named to NFL All-Rookie Team in 2019 and to his first Pro Bowl in 2020. In 2022, he led the league in rushing yards with 1,653 and became the first Raider since 1985 to surpass 2,000 scrimmage yards. After four years with the Raiders, Jacobs signed with the Packers in 2024.

He played college football at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College before transferring to Utah State and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Thompson won a Super Bowl title as part of the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
